Lightbulb ECM tuning question

Why cant tuners reflash a computer to OBD1, obd2 etc? Leave the wiring harnesses out of the equation for the moment. I just want to know why cant each computer be totally earaced and programed with whatever?
I ask this question because I want my 93 computer to have all the 94 abilities except maf. Sounds easy enough. Opinions please.

I know this but a computer is a computer. Why cant a program be placed from one computer to another? How does the computer itself know what year it is? The 95 and 96 computer isnt completely different so why cant I earace a 95 computer and reprogram it to make it a 96, OBD1 to OBD2 leaving the wiring harness out of the equation of course.

I beleive the only OB1 computer was a 93 an a little of 94. OBD is a government standard which regulates a single style type of computer program so that we dont have millions and millions of differnent program ECM's. I dont think u can do it beacuse of emissions regulations. Everything maybe the same but there maybe some small differences whcih wont allow certain things. I know a computer is a computer but thats how they are made. You can convert from OBD 1 to OBD 2 but what for.Thats just my O2 thou.

you can convert obd1 to 2 and the other way, lots of people have done that. I don't think you can convert the 93s to later ones though.

I just want a scanmaster for my 93 and I'm willing to do anything to make it happen A big tuner on another board said it cant be done basiclly because theyre way to different. I believe it can be compared to trying to run win xp on a Tandy 1000. Guess Im back at square one.

i have seen people convert from 93 to 94 pcms ... but it was a lot of work. you would also have to keep it tuned in speed density mode, and program out things like the electronic tranny if infact you have a a4. i cant seem to find the link right now, but it was pretty detailed, and looked like a pita!
