Who makes the best aftermarket oil pan for the LT1?
My second stroker motor is almost done and I am having an aftermarket oil pan installed for oil control. I have heard from a knowledgable freind who did research that Moroso's is the best and the Canton's leak. My engine builder swears by the Canton pan and insist that it offers the best oil control for high performance.
What do you guys think?

I heard the same thing about Moroso being best and Canton leaks. For my Camaro setup I went with a Moroso. That same pan wont fit in a C4 so I bought a used Canton. So next week we shall see how it fits etc.

I have had 2 Cantons, on mine (hard landing got the first one) one. This one leaks, first one did not. Had nothing to do wiht installation, it's a pin hole in a weld. If you ask around more, you will find the leaky welds are not all that uncommon. I can name a couple others right now. Mine showed zero power increase (There is power in a GOOD oil pan) and looks more like a road race pan inside than a drag race pan. Can't knock it too much, should be improved oil control over a stocker.
I have ownned and sold a few pans over the years, and know what they both look like. I'm searching for something better right now. I need to talk to ProPan, where my fabricated valve covers came. Had a car in last week with a set from another place, no comparrison. They do more actual race car stuff, so no one piece rear main seal stuff on the shelf. Donavan, Dart, etc, race blocks. Probably have to take an LT1 short block up there, along with my cross member clearance measurements for them to build it.
I would fill the pan with water or solvent before installing it, and check along the welds for leaks. I should have.

One of the b-body guys has Stef's making a b-body LT1 pan that looks really nice, Ed should know the guy. I will not claim they are best but they are working with him to get stroker notching right and even oil level sender bungs, really going to great lengths to get things right.

Well this isn't the news I expected, I thought the whole point of getting an aftermarket pan is because it reduced windage and INCREASED horsepower! In addition, I thought the primary reason for going with a Canton despite their leaky reputation is because they offer more horsepower! Why are we getting pans again?

I run a Stef's custom pan. B-body pan that's been clearanced for a F-body as the notch won't allow the pan to sit properly due to the rack and pinion. Pan is trick as they come. I'll get pics up tomorrow or later today possibly as I just got it back from Jake @ Stef's last wk because of the above issue.
