focus on graduating, education is first and foremost!
later on do the 396 and put a bigger cam than a 306 with a 110 lobe center and duration in the 250-260 range with valve lift in the 600-670 area and get a set of LE ported trick flows and supporting equip.good luck brah

i know school is more important. im going to graduate here in january. im not going to do the 396 right away (at least i tell myself that). so i just want something that will make me happy for awhile. i can probably sell the 305 cam for what i paid for it, if not more lol. what will the lift be w/ 1.6 rockers for the 306 cam? also will crane gold s/a rockers work w/ the 306 cam? and what springs do you all think i should get? im still undecided i just want to kinda get an idea of what the differences are here

depending on the springs you use, the SA rockers most likely will not work. 918s its a definite no, others I've heard its iffy

If you are still on stock/unported heads you will not see much of a gain going from the 305 to the 306, the 306 likes to spin to 6300+. I shift my 306 around 6600-6700. And the lift will be .544/.576 with 1.6s

Did you ever look into the cc503 a little bigger than the 305 you are running. They used to be called comp cams extreme energy. I might slam one in my LT1

Still listening to the sound clip of Ron's GM847????

Just slap the 305 in your car for now since you still have the stock convertor and start saving up for the killer motor.

stay 305, you dont have to spin the crap outta the motor to make all the power of the cam, and they make nice tq, on stock heads

DOnt go 306 unless you are plannning on getting heads too, stock heads cant take advantage of a 306 (I have seen them go 350rwhp on stock heads, but im not entirely sure that it was worth the loss of torque.), you're running close to.600 lift with a 1.6 rocker, and our heads dont really flow that well up there. That 305 will be more enjoyable with the fatter midrange on a stock cube/headed LT1. Our stock heads favor a smaller profile than an LS1 as our intake runner is rather small and stock valves arent what i would call generous. Now once you get that 396, well thats a little different

Are you planning on getting your heads ported? If not then that cam is not the cam for you, go with the cc503. If so then you should go with the cam that your head porters recomend(custom grind). Just my .02
