Default 396 CI build single plain intake????

I am doing a 396 CI build up but had a quick question regarding a good intake..... I am currently deciding on a cylinder but wanted to know if i run an EFI conversion set up with a single plan intake from intake elbows I dont have to run a reverse style cooling head right??? or do all the cooling ideas stay the same.....please help for all those who have a single plain style intake.... what r the benefits to running this intake? can anyone recommend a good style intake....

Good choice of builds, go solid roller , The SuperVic is hands down big improvement over the LT1/LT4 intake and a custom sheetmetal intake is also a good choice gaining a little more torque with longer runners as an option if you have the clearance. I got my quote from LME finally today @$1800 for a custom SuperVic setup and fully ported yada yada, a custom sheetmetal is what Brian @LME recommended for my build @$2000. I just bought a brand new RUBICON and those quotes sounds nuts at the moment but I'm going with one or the other. I'm waiting for another quote from another company though for the SuperVic build.

Bottom line is you can't go wrong with either one on a stroker and damn good heads!

BRETTINATOR i was just curious to know y not use another intake set up and have a intake elbows make it work for $200... I was also curious to know if i had to run the same style cylinder head, reverse flow cooling?

i have 2 quick questions, will the super vic or vic E fit under the stock style ramair hood. is it worth buying one of these intakes if you are building a 383 or a 355 with a D1SC, if so what one do i buy.

i believe that with super vic, that this setp wont fit under a stock hood on a Z28 not sure about the ram air one thou... on a D1SC set up it would be benifical espically if u are going to run large amounts of boost. i have read before that on LT1 stock intakes that they get starved for cfm in the rear two cylinders. it would be better to distribute the airflow more efficently and cause a way bigger power gain... its like asking y do the big dog 9 second cars run different inatake style's than the LT1 stock type...

what about fuel rails can i use the stock lt1 rails? i was also reading about hole locations when bolting up to the heads. if i go with the victor jr or super vic do i have to get the holes relocted to work with the LT1 style cylinder head...

Yes you do and I'd recommend a good shop to do, they use lt1 heads (usually a set in the shop) and fit them up along with going through some pain to locate & drill out or whatever for the new holes. As far as the reverse cooling think it's not an issue. If I understood your other post the heads you have could be beefed up for whatever stroke you go with and keep the reverse cooling. The machine shop will also weld in the injector bungs and don't bother with the stock fuel rails just get the machine shop fitup a new fuelrail setup (not too expensive less than $200 usually).

No you could defintely go with 18deg sbc heads max ported which are awesome, the block has to be setup for it and the heads are welded in certain areas where the cooling on the lt1 block is setup. I know the mere basics of going to 18deg heads, some on here could answer better than me on it. I like the 23deg heads personally.

As for your first question I like the flexibility of the SV because I have more options like trying a 4-barrell TB or use an elbow like Wilson or IntakeElbows with my ASM monoblade.

I should have dyno numbers this week on this setup with a mild street cam in it. I guess I will have to let you know how that goes, busy week ahead.

A Victor JR and an Elbow.(NOT A 90degree) Will fit under a stock Z-28 hood. Look for an elbow that that bends downward toward the front.

i got a Harwood 2.5" cowl so i should i be OK..... anyone got a part number for the Super Vic and Victor Jr intake?

sounds good hopefully they will be some good numbers.. what intake elbow did u use???? what else needs to be done to make the intake work???

The elbow is a secret, the testing will be done with a carb since it's ending up in a 93, and doing a speed density tune on a engine dyno is pretty much worthless once you put it in the car. The carb is a HP 950 Vacuum Secondary carb so it's flowing the same amount as the throttle body that will end up on it later. This will make the process much easier for break in and getting the timing setup correctly, which is all I'm after. The A/F just needs to be safe, thats all. I'm expecting the RWHP numbers to be off 17-20% of the engine dyno numbers with the 4L60 and 2800 lock up converter.

y is a speed density tune worthless off the dyno i have a 93 and was planning on doing this build on speed density....

Off the engine dyno. Call up Alvin @ PCM4LESS about it. We talked about it prior to doing this and it's not worth the aggrivation.
