I know I have been one of the lucky ones, My first Opti took me to 83,000 miles (not bad). Let me ask this how much does it cost to replace the Coil packs on an LS1 to the MSD coil packs. I think they were $90.00 ea. I run with well modded LS1's. I also got a friend who took his LS1 blocked out, pissed on it and got himself an 6.0 iron block for his 408

you are saying completely stock you made 340rwhp? you are full of ****. i would like to see a slip AND a dyno graph to prove it. im not talking stock plus a lid or any of that crap, im talking completely like it came from GM. because completely stock it did NOT put down 340rwhp no matter what.

it has stock 02 SS exhuast and lid with a k&n filter...all offered stock except the filter. My car was rated 305 at the crank. I have had alot of people doubt it, but there are a few people on this site that has seen it on 2 different dyno's

i am not going to say it cant be true, nor will i call you a liar cause i just dont know!however if your car did put those numbers down STOCK thats just badass more than a freak to me.
big boys at gm said the Lt1 is 300 at the crank and the Ls1 is 350 at the crank and we all know, NO two engines make the same power even if they are duplicated by the same componets.
you definately have a quick ride!

I knew ths post would turn ugly, the LS1 vs. LT1 topics always do so I will now throw my flame suit on.

My ancient iron block might be 1/2 second slower all things being equal but I sure dont have appearance issues like this:

I am sick of people ragging on the LT1 and implying its gay. The LT1 paved the road for the LS1 which again with all things being equal is the superior motor. You can even say the the 03+ Cobra will spank the LS1 any day as well so it cant be the motor of the gods.

I do know this, if god created the LS1 in his image the way people say all the time then he must have modeled the body style after a clown faced wide mouth catfish. At-a-boy to GM engineering for missing the boat here, but it sure is fast.

You just can't name a thread LT1 Vs. LS1 an expect this not to happen.

Its ok if people think that I am full of ****... I could have other members come on and post the dyno graph.... The shop were I had it dyno'd at thought it was BS as well.... even made me a little bet.... if i broke 330 RWHP the pulls would be free, if not then I woul dhave to pay from them. Contact JZ'sTA, he is the one who put the car on the dyno and pulled it... I believe he is a sponcer on this site for J&J performance. Had a beautiful power curve as well.

Not that I am saying anything about the LT1.... it is a great motor, has its pro's and con's. I feel teh only big difference as far as performance goes, it the owners choice to whick poison he picks to go kill the blue oval boys. The best runs I have ever had were with LT1 cars...win or lose!

it says alot for GM when this becomes a big debate..... notice not many people size up the Mach 1/4.6/5.0 to the LS1/LT1

ive driven both,i own a 97 Z and my old man has an 02 formula. i like em both.
imo the only thing better about the LS1 is that bolt on for bolt on it will be slightly faster as others said previously

my bolt on Z (mods in sig) gets walked by LS1 with similar mods and and barely pull stock LS1's

Stock VS Stock

Bolt on VS Bolt on

LS1 Wins.

Now build a nice setup and your going to be neck and neck.

of course the LS1 is always going to win stock for stock or with equal mods i would hope GM didnt make a new engine that was inferior to the previous one...i paid 5,500 for my 50K mile fully optioned LT1 mint condition, a similiar LS1 would have ran me ATLEAST 10k around where i am from....
so you could take that 4500 and do a LE stage 1 or 2 H/C package, and maybe a couple boltons, assuming the good ol opti isnt on the way out
or you could get the LS1 and have a stronger base to start with...
if money is no object then the choice is easy... LS7

I get your point but I have to say I am soooo sick of hearing the "for how much less I paid for the car I can get X mods" crap. That's the same lame argument the Honda Civic kids always make. IMO what you pay for a car is irrelivent. Most people buying 8K-30K cars are financing them anyway. I paid 14K for mine but it's not like I actually had 14K in cash where I could have bought a LT1 and dumped 9-10K into it. I only had 2K and it went to the down payment. Had I bought a LT1 the payemts would have been lower but I would have still had no mod money to start with

And if you buy the budget brands you can get LS1 mods reasonably priced. For example, Pacesetter coated LT headers and ORY are only $530. TCI 3500-4000 stalls are in the $500-$600 range. Lids and cutouts=cheap. PRC and Patriot make budget heads in the 900-1200 range. Hell I can get a 402 or even 408 CI Iron short block for around $3,500 now. And LT1 guys love to talk about the iron as a pro rather then a con

To the thread starter,

8K worth of mods in each could probably net similair results if the money is spent wisely. It's when you are spending less then 3K or willing to spend 25k+ that the LS1 really shows a big advantage.
