So the key is stay with 2.73 or 3.23, always preload the drivetrain and say a little extra prayer in church on Sundays
very true, I have a friend who was running 2.73's in his 10 sec car. Didn't want to change the gears in fear of breaking them anyway. Now he's rocking a 12 bolt. Looks like the direction Im gonna go..

Most of the posts make sense, noting over the top or real bashing has happen (yet im sure)

I have had both cars, i do miss the feel, and sound of my LT1. The LS1 is more refined feeling.

You guys are actually behaving yourselves for once.

No reason to lock it unless it gets out of hand.

If the new AFR heads are anything like they claim to be then it may breath new life into the LTX series. I really look foward to some real world testing.

yes this is true from the factory obviously. but you got to think of that fact there you can BUY current technology for the LT1.

I was thinking about that but why re-invent the wheel? What current technology are you reffering to?

No one is talking about max efforts here. aluminum blocks can get you into the 8s.

the iron block has been proven well into the 7's and even 6's
the 4 bolt per cylinder issue is highly overrated, the iron block has alredy seen over 1500 hp with no sealing issues properly prepared
lifting heads is a tuning/management issue not a 4 bolt per cylinder one

yeah that is true why re-invent the wheel. I was thinking that you can buy current technology for an LT1 when you rebuild it. like heads and cam, and ignition (msd, delteq) and intake (Super Vic) and pistons. etc etc. so I guess.... witch motor has more potential when doing a rebuild. and of couse the LS1 has aluminum. but other than that. ??? . and also still the fact that the LT1 can use nasty gen 1 heads. just a thought. like to see what yall have to say. although I think I already know.

I don't think anyone will argue that iron > aluminum for 900 or more HP applications.

But not too many people will argue with this either:

Aluminum > Iron for 900 or less HP applications (for no other reason besides saving weight in the nose).

And if you look at these big power cars you see they are usually big cubed motors. So if someone asks me which is better the LT1's iron block or the LS1's aluminum block I have to say the LS1's aluminum. Because by the time you have enough power to need an iron block you have all ready ditched the stock shortblock and bought a 383, 402, 408, 427, ect. When you do that then whatever you used to have from the factory is now a mute point.

Now lets say you drove the car for 3 years prior to a stroker. I would rather have had aluminum for those 3 years because it saves 100 lbs. of weight and that made me another .1 quicker for those first three years.

All the stuff you mentioned isnt new technology. The heads weve had thus far have been around a while although head porters are doing better and better with stock heads. The ignition is still based off the opti regardless. Until they delete it completely it's old technology. The supervic is in no way new technology. The LS1 has more things going for it than what you listed. To get these so called nasty 23 degree heads from the SBC you still have to convert them etc while the LS1 has a "nasty" selection of heads off the shelf.
LT1 will always be a winner because it's so cheap to get and you can make decent power with them without going broke. The LS1 is falling into that same class I feel. Not hard to find a used LS1 for a decent price and make some serious power with a nice H/C/I setup. That's why I said why invent the wheel. Depending on your goal both motors and both versions of the Fbody can be had a decent prices so in the end it's about what you want.
I dont think the LT1 time is over but I dont expect anything super revolutionary to come out anytime soon.
