LS1 vs. LT1
alum. heads are 500$-900$ pair
blocks are fairly cheap to buy and machine, forged pistons less than 200$
forged rods less than 200$ also
i used reg. sbc parts in my turbo lt1 forged 150$ pistons and 175$ rods
all bearings are the same for both lt1 and sbc
the major weak link of the lt1 is the top end
the heads dont flow much stock and the intake does nothing to help
a look inside and it will have a narrow pentagon/diamond shape plenum
with short 4.5 in.runners with a very sharp ^ shape floor
i am working on a conversion sbc intake for my lt1 car and it should work pretty good,
when i get it completed i will start a thread on it
-if your supercharging the car why not the LT1 ,the transams and SS are sweet.
-then again if your spending alot of money i think its personal prefrence.
-huh this thread is weak!!
what do a 1,000 hp and 600 hp supra both have in common? theyre both 11 second cars.
bottom line it's a money game.
You want to go really cheap, step into an LT1. Then you'll have the fun of saying "It's an LT1" then everyone laughs then you rape them.
You want to go more expensive but be able to say "Yeah it's an LS1" and everyone's scared.. get an overpriced LS1.
Base cost of an LS1? $12k in my area for a decent one. Cost of an LT1? $4k usually for the cheap ones. I bought mine for $5500 with 53k on the clock.
It's a money game.
My buddies thirdgen camaro with heads/cam would rape most LS1s around here, and he doesn't have **** into it. The chassis was dirt cheap and the motor even cheaper.
It's all about money money money. Both motors will perform the same if they have equal flowing heads and same sized cams. Displacement determines potential - there's nothing magical about an LS1.

chill it was a jokeWhen you ran a 13.7, youre trying to tell me you beat a Heads/Cam LT1 with no mods?
315 ( give or take a few) hp to the wheels is 12's for an LT1... Trust me

A decent heads/cam package, like say the mild little LE1 package, should have an A4 puttin down 350+hp easy.
Granted, the last years of the LS1's are a handful, capable of low 13's and the occasional high 12'.
A Heads and Cam LT1 should run 11's, low 12's, depending degree from mild to wild, and tuning/gearing etc.
In short, a Heads/Cam LT1 should rape an LS1. A Cammed LS1 is in order for that matchup.
you can use my sig pic, but i honestly have no interest in euro tail lights.

Now if I remember right, we lined em up for one race last Saturday. It was the classic LS1 vs LT1 confrontation. I can't seem to remember though. Who won that race again?
Just playing. That was a very nice looking and sounding ride
Most stock LS1 GTO's are in the high 13's (autos) or mid 13's (Manuals). But at a little elevation, humid weather or bad driving you will see a lot in the low 14's.

Okay, let me get this right. You put two cars on a headed and cammed LT1 from 40-110.
Lets be honest here. Unless the LT1 had the totally wrong camshaft and the heads were ported with a chainsaw there is no way this statement can be taken seriously. The rock bottom average for H/C LT1 is 350RWHP or so and will not take the *** whooping being presented here. I say the LT1 guy could not drive.
A typical LT1 with ported heads and a bigger cam usually implies it also has headers and some Bolt-ons. This setup is going to spank a stock or very near stock LS1.

BLASPHAMY!!!!!!!

Seriously though, I agree with you completely. No way a Heads and cam LT1 is losing to a intake only LS1. Unless of course the heads were installed with a sledge hammer, the LT1 owner drives slow enough to drive Miss Daisy or a few spark plug wires were pulled before the race
