Default LS1 vs. LT1

ok, say if you take an LT1 and an LS1 and put $8,000 into each, going with the best parts that give you the most power gains, big cams, good heads, and etc. Which will be faster?

Can a LS1 with just Heads and Cam have more HP then a built LT1 383 stroker with H/C setup? With both LS1 and LT1's haveing a big cam, and good flowing heads...which one will come out on top

Coming from a LS1 owner, the LT1 is the best competion out there.

Stock they have their pros and cons ill mention what I can off the top of my head im really tired

LT1 pros
Iron block-Nice and strong lasts very long!
Reverse cooling
350ci
Less $ to mod

LT1 cons
2 Bolt
Opti Spark

LS1 Pros
Aluminum block-100lbs lighter then general ISBC
Techincally Shorty Headers outta the factory
Intake/Heads
Coil packs
6 Bolt

LS1 Cons

Aluminum Block
Piston Slap

The LT1 is still great in my motor, especially a 383 LT1 thats what I am building once my motor gets old. It doesnt matter what you drive, its how you drive and how much money your willing to put into your car. Ill never part with my LT1, or LS1.

Why do you consider the Aluminum Block to be a con for the LS1?

the LS1 has a superior head design. period. however, the cost of switching from LT1 to LS1 is not worth the pain, because that money could be used to make the LT1 more powerful. In the end going fast is a money game no matter what or how you look at it.

This subject has been beat to death. The LS1 is a better motor mod for mod as well it should be, theres nothing wrong with that. Once you start dumping big money into any motor it starts to level the playing field. Give me enough money and I can make a Festiva see 11's. As for swapping, it's just not worth it unless you just happen to have everything for the swap and plan on doing it yourself.

umm WRONG! How can you call the aluminum motor that can handle 1200 hp without and prep weak?

just may be me but i think a LT1 described the way he did "built 383 LT1 with big cam and good flowing heads" would make more power than a H/C LS1, you give the LT1 better heads (weak point), along with the big cam and more displacement i think it would make more power, of course i may be wrong but thats just what i thought

You are wrong. LS1 was touched by God and the LT1 cant ever beat that.

Seriously though, LT1 for MAX EFFORT! and LS1 for DD/street-strip type things.

At low speeds an LT1 and LS1 will feel close to the same, if not the LT1 giving a sense of more "torque" feeling. At highers speeds, meaning above 50MPH the LS1 will really start to make the LT1 look like a smoker at a track meet. (Heads). Both are sweet motors. I have an LT1 but I would be crazy to not want an LS1 as well. Win win no matter witch one you go with.

lol you are a silly one. LS1 blocks are sleeved. people who buy the iron blocks do it cause they can't afford a well built aluminum one. The LS1 is the superior engine. LT1s are SBCs with crappier ignitions and improved cooling systems. that's all there is to it, Gen III/IV engines are more advanced and more efficient.

uh dude, the LT1 Vette is 300 HP and 500 lbs lighter than the f-body. They run mid-low 13s stock with a 6-speed and a good driver, so why is it surprising you barely edged him out stock?

I think you need to take a walk over to the forced inductions section... those people building max effort motors... going ALL out seem to prefer the iron block. Im talking 1000 hp up or ls1s taking nasty hits of nitrous.

Exactly, not to mention the respond well to gear changes etc. If you want to fall in love with the LT1 again get a C4.
