Default customer's LT1

so at work we did a customer's 96 impala SS.

385ci LT1 block, .30 over pistons, LT4 hotcam kit with roller lifters, stock crank, stock rods, stock 2 bolt main. he has edelbrock shorties, hypercrap tuner, and a CAI.

its an A4 non stalled. stock toothpick with 3.23's i think.

how much do you think he'll be putting down with his 22" rims?

EDIT:::
stock rear end would be 3.08s.

I saw the 385, but did not see you used a stock crank. SO on a b-car lt1 You're prolly looking at maybe 320rwhp

Unless I missed something you displacement is incorrect. You said it is .030 but you also mentioned it you used the stock crank which would put you at a 355 CID. All said and done you only bored the block and added a Hot Cam and have shorty headers, so I wouldn't say you gained any more than 25-50 HP from the the original rated HP. Just my guess with the limited information.

im thinking on going with that setup aswell... itll be cheaper than LE2.

itll be around $1700 for me to do the same thing. i calculated. but using a 400 crank and new rods.

If the pistons say 030 that is an indication that they are .030 over

385 with the stock crank? how the hell'ed ya do that? a 385 with the stock crank is not possible. I also don't think it can be done on a .030 over bore. pretty sure to get 385 you need a .040 overbore and a "400" crank, which is 3.75". To be quite honest, this guy really seamed to waste his money, unless the motor spun a bearing or something. the fact that he has shorties and hypertech tuner, and then he went to a hot cam with a stock stall? and on 22's with the stock 3.08's? I say he will run a 15 flat. now if the guy is serious about going fast, he needs to put 4.10's out back, put a 3000 stall in it, go long tube headers, and get a REAL tune. then he might stand a chance. but in something already weighing 4200lbs(then add rims ), and the bigger cam with no stall isn't doing jack **** for him. compared to with his stock 17's, this guy has effectively put his rear ratio at around 2.56. which is NOT a good idea with a bigger cam. anouther thing... he went with a hot cam? why? not the best idea with his setup. anyways, hope he does well....

What I got from this is you don't know a damn thing about this engine and the "customer" knows even less.

The stock "toothpick" I take it you mean axle well the 8.5" axle the Impala came with loaded with posi 3.08 is capable of handling 10 second passes in the heavy b-body. The mod list reads like a what not to do manual. The others already covered the stroke thing.

Most competently put together bolton b-bodies will put down more power than this thing I guess 260 tops unless you left out some very important things.

What do I think he will lay down? I think he will lay his car down on the back of the tow truck as it's sent back to your shoppe.

"What I got from this is you don't know a damn thing about this engine and the "customer" knows even less."

That said it... pretty much.

hey ********, i never said that i knew about building this engine. i just overheard the other mechanic telling him he would be in the 380cid range and 400whp. he is the one who brought the idea up about building that LT1 up. i just sat there and agreed so not to **** him off.

i didnt know about the 8.5 10 bolt being in B bodys.

WTF, that's the most mismatched list of parts ever.

Shorty headers and a hotcam with a 385ci stroker? No aftermarket torque converter? STOCK CRANK but a stroker? What is this, magic? I'm thoroughly confused.

The bullshit detector is in the red. Something ain't right here.

I think your responsible to inform that customer that he has been mis-informed. Stock crank and 385ci? doesnt make sense, that didnt throw any red flags up?

im not responsible for it because i didnt give him the idea on the motor buildup. im not the one building the thing, i just do my work and overhear whats going on.

i know its mismatched parts, im laughing at the situation because the other mechanic who suggested all the work/parts thinks its gonna be an almighty *** whooping stroker motor.

You would be better off saying right now my friend that you dont know dick about motors....

you wont get flamed for it because not everyone has been into it and most people dont care. Everyone has to start somewhere. I was as iggnorant as you at some point.

Just fess up... and just read and learn from the site... you will have to sift through some bullshit, but you will learn a lot in time.

If you act like you knwo nad you have no idea, you will get flamed... and a lot.
