A hot cam is a good spray spray cam. A friend of mine made 336 with a stock motor and a hot cam. He had Hooker lt's as well.

I have a stock LT1 with a custom Crower cam. It is a 212/219 474/495 110ls. I ran a 12.32@12.08. I also have Hooker LT's. I love it. I have had no problems with it at all.

It really hauls for the amount of mods that he has done to it. If you plan on always keeping stock heads, I would really consider that cam. I am also extremely happy with my hotcam, and it was quite cheap. Got good gains with it too. Now I just need tuning, and longtubes...
