For loud with class, put on a bullet with no cats. Flowmasters do not "flow" and most people don't like the annoying popping sound on deceleration.
The best sounding I've heard was my old setup which consisted of longtubes with an h-hipe and true duals with a couple bullets. I ran the exhaust all the way out the back. When you were just cruising the car had a nice mellow rumble. Put your foot into and all bets were off cause the cops could hear you in the next city.
I've had 4 different exhaust systems on LT1s so my opinions come from experience, not just what I've heard on others.

I have a modified Pont Form FH with the LT-1 turned into a 6.3Ltr. It was necessary to replace the exhaust after the OEM rusted, and failed.
I like this setup after doing some research. Based on availability, price, performance/$ I had this installed from the cats back.
3"-single tube main tube, stainless.
(1) Flowmaster sing in/dual out. max Cavitation.
2.5" output pipes to rear., stainless
Stainless Steel tips.
I like the sound, and the stainless will last a good long time. The Flowmaster is made of heavier grade steel than most mufflers, and reasonably priced.
The 2.5 inch output pipes resonate the muffler system at just above idle. Three inch dia. output pipes were not needed. <img border="0" alt="[burn out]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_burnout.gif" />

Loudest one I have heard so far, short of open headers is what I had on mine.
True 3" duals, with an X pipe, 2 DynoMax Race Bullets with 2 3" oval exits under the passenger side door.
Now that was a little loud...although the cops never pulled me over for it. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[driving]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_driving3.gif" />
