Damn It I Need A New Hood....HELP ME!!!!!
I am swapping engines over to a SBC with a carb. The problem I have is that this engine is about 3-4" taller than the LT1. So naturally I need something will a taller cowl.
I was thinking of getting a lay-on type hood (the hood with the 12 little thumb screw on it for those that don't know) but I haven't been able to find one that I like. Hell finding one at all has been rough.
I think that a straight up cowl looks pretty damn nasty, and I want to try and avoid that at all cost. I hear that somebody was making a replica SS hood, but it had a taller cowl on it. I know Dave Dilluca has his guy make a one off masterpeice, but that hood shall never be repeated from what I understand.
Any and all help here is really appreciated, thanks in advance

i was thinking about getting something different like that also when and if i go carb. there was a local guy around here that had a setup like that. it wasn't a lift-off hood though. from what i saw, they basically got a SS hood replica, cut off the scoop and added fiberglass to make it taller. i saw the hood before and after it was painted/finished. shouldn't be too hard for a body shop i'm thinking. hope this helps..
VFN is currently working on a tall SS hood similar to Dave's. Call them and see what the plans are time wise. I suspect if you wait a lil while you can get one.
What you mean cowl hoods look nasty!!! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" /> Hehe.
BTW Nick, for future reference the fasteners for the hood are "Dzus Fasteners" There are some all the way around my hood for some reason. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />
Also there is a company that makes an SS hood that that looks pretty close to stock, and should fit so long as you don't have a REALLY tall induction system, and don't need to use a filter. If need be shoot me some email and I can scrounge up their phone number.

Kurt thanks for the info. I heard about the VFN one and I have sent them an e-mail to see what their time line looks like.
If you don't mind, I would really apprecite some info on that other hood guy.
Right now Ia m exploring all of my options.
I am more than likely going to be using a Victor Junior intake. At least for the time being anyway.

There is a white 95Z around here that is carbed.
He had to cut out part of the cowl, the plastic and the metal.
I think he uses a Victor Junior intake.
His name is Bill Dobesh. (sp?)
