Default Cam for a GrandSport

Hey, actually asking this question for a buddy of mine ('cause I don't know a whole lot about LT4s). My buddy has a 1996 Corvette GrandSport LT4, bone stock. He wants to put a mild cam in his car, that won't idle rough and doesn't require computer tuning. Can you guys make a suggestion? I know he was looking at the Lingenfelter 211/219 .530 .560 112 CL ... but I think that may be too big for stock LT4 springs? Also looking at the LPE 213/219 .493 .502 112 CL.

Also maybe the CC 304? 210/220 .500/.510 114 LSA?

Any ideas/opinions?

Does he have any objections to the LT4 HOT cam? I had that one for awhile and loved it. With Catalytic Converters intact, there wasn't any lope at a casual listening. Good dyno numbers and ET's at full body weight (3,650lbs). Best ET with the LT4 HOT cam, 355 cubes, Long tubes and 2,800 stall was a 12.2 @ 110 (tranny is a non-lockup TH350). Best dyno with the above combo save the tranny was still the stock M6 was 389rwhp as measured at Colvins dyno in Austin, Tx.

The GrandSports have a fairly steep gears (more so than C5s I believe), and I believe he was concerned with a loss of low-end with the combination of that cam and his gears. He was also concerned with the lope with the hotcam... but after thinking about it he still has his stock exhaust, which consists of cats and 3 mufflers. Hmmm....

the 112 LSA is going to provide a pretty lopey idle and the .560 exhaust lift is a lot of lift for stock springs. the second choice looks fairly reasonable but the 112 LSA again is gonna lope pretty hard. The 114 LSA is the best choice for a smoothe idle but the CC304 is a VERY small cam, not really even worth installing i wouldnt think. might want to think about a custom grind camshaft or perhaps the second cam choice but on a 114 LSA. and since the LT4 has a higher rev limiter you could still get decent power without having to raise the rev limiter.

Thanks for posting the question Alex, I think I've decided on the Hotcam <img border="0" alt="[burn out]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_burnout.gif" />
