Magnaflow F@&%ing SUCKS - calling all 96-97 lT1 owners
I just bought a magnaflow catback exhaust system for my 96 Z28. After following directions to hack my existing exhaust pipe in half the laying out the pieces of the shiny new magnaflow set...I find out that it doesn't fit!
After calling the not so helpful folks at magnaflow, they 'informed' me that I have a special limited production vehicle with 2 catalytic converters and their exhaust will not fit without modifications. I responded that EVERY 96-97 camaro has dual cats, and their kit specifies that it fits 94-97. Also magnaflow even makes the cat and Y pipe for the dual cat cars. And if you were to purchase that along with their catback for the exact same year of car...THEY WOULDN'T FIT TOGETHER!!!
Has anyone else had this problem, because magaflow says i'm the second person to ever call about this issue. Does anyone know if an LS1 setup would work?? For now I hate magnaflow unless they're willing to send me a setup that works. Thanks for reading

I think you might be able to solve the issue by getting a Y Pipe for the stock manifold.
I can't think of any off the top of my head, but I know a couple companies make them.
This would be a good time to get headers

I did one on a 97 WS6 , I didn't use the extra s pipe (last pipe going to the cat), used a clamp and it fit snug with no leaks when tightened.
I am not 100 % sure but I think the kit they offer will fit on the single cat years and dual , just by not using the last s pipe.

well, I'll get some pics posted as soon as I can, but what im saying is the entire system would fit fine if i didn't use the S-pipe they included, except for the intermediate pipe is 3inch diameter on the maganflow part and its only 2.75?? aprrox on the outlet from my Ypipe on the car. I can't be positive but I HIGHLY doubt the y pipe and cat setup isn't stock. I bought the car off my brother and he bought it when it was only 3 years old and I know he didn't change anything on the car. Judging from the PDF install sheets from magnaflow's site, it looks like if I used the LS1 catback it would bolt up perfectly because the intermediate pipe from the LS1 kit is 2.75 inch at the opening then progresses to 3" the rest of the way...

Don't use the S-pipe. That is only for people with single cat setups. I.E. the S-pipe is for the 93-95 since you mentioned they advertised a 94-97 system. That's the differnece. Just sell or throw out the S-pipe and you'll be fine.

I think he said he hacked his stock pipes...
Bowtie96, a catback for a 93 will fit, minus the S pipe... Yes your stock Y's outlet is 2.75 but Im pretty much positive that it will fit INSIDE your new intermediate pipe. At least mine did.
The ONLY difference in catbacks for 93-95 cars and 96-02 cars is the actual mounts and the S pipe. EVERYTHING else is interchangeable.
