Default Mr. Gasket 160 thermostat over hypertech?

I used to have a hypertech 160 thermostat in my car and within a year it died. Currently, i have the stock thermostat in the car. My car is tuned to the old thermostat and the fans kick on early. Because i have the stock thermostat now, it leads me to believe the fans are working harder.

I feel like the car ran better with the 160. (most likely in my head)

Now, to my question. Is the Mr. Gasket 160 thermostat a better choice over the hypertech? Or, should i just keep the one that i have now?

well, I agree that the fans are working harder. The water in the radiator is gonna go to 100*, and the engine will be at 185*... which isn't exactly what you want. the LT1 tstat is a dual action, so it limits the flow in when the radiator side is cold, so it doesn't shock the motor as much. Now this could all just be theory. But the fans runing all the time with the tsat closed, is good in what respect?

I didn't know, i was just guessing. The point was, that it was higher than 160.

I think im going to go with Mr. Gasket 160. Since the hypertech already died in less than a year. I should try something else...

I think that is a little more accurate. It's either 180, or 185. I think your right though.

The 160 thermostat won't keep your car any cooler without the use of a fan switch or fan programming to bring them on earlier.

If it is not the long LT1 style, it's the wrong one (depends on how much cheaper you are talking about). Make sure you have the right one, if you want the cooling system to work properly.

Perhaps I just had bad luck, I had one fail closed though that had been in the car maybe a year and a half. Fresh headgaskets later I won't touch one of them.
