GM lt1 to lt4 conversion kit
i was looking at the gmpp lt1 to lt4 conversion kit for $2,300. they say it will give you a proven 425+hp. is this true? has anyone tried it? is it worth the price? by the way my car is a 95 lt1 a4 with 90k on it.

GM has discontinued the production of the LT4 intake manifold, and has since stopped sales of the conversion kit. 425hp from that kit is optimistic. More like 400hp at the crank at best. If you contact Lloyd Elliot at www.eportworks.com, you can talk to him personally to see which power kit would suite you best to achieve the horsepower you want for less then the LT4 kit. If you want a streetable kit like the LT4, look into his LE1 package.

skip the conversion kit. Go with some ported stockers(by a reputable person/shop), aftermarket heads are really not needed. the stock heads have been proven to push a 4200lbs caprice to low 12's on a 224(ish) duration cam, on a stock 350.

Yea, the LT1 and LT4 aren't that much different for the money that you will put into it. I just got a Corvette 4-Bolt Main Block, and I am putting in the LT4 Timing Set when I put it back together. I could invest in the LT4 Heads, Crank and Intake, and have a true LT4, but the LT1 with some good Heads and Cam will spank it.
That will be like getting a LT5 in one of these cars. Yea, it would be a big wow factor, but the $$ you will put into it will wow your account...

I dont think a LT5 would even fit in an F-body, have you seen how wide those babies are?
Anyways, the LT4 conversion was cool but only a while ago. And while the LT4 heads have more flow potential because the raised ports and better runner design finding a set cheap and finding the LT4 manifold will definitely drain your pocket book. But if you have some laying around, then by all means do it.

I've got the LT4 conversion on my Formula. Puts down 355rwtq at 4500rpm and 365rwhp at 6000rpm. This was through shorty headers dumped at the Y. 425hp at the crank is reasonable for the conversion.
Having said that, 425 at the crank just isn't enough and once you've got that you'll want more.

I wish that I would have had someone steer me in the right direction a few years ago. I was well shy of the 425hp. Maybe at the crank. You can get much more bang for your buck with other setups. The LT4 is cooler than a Stock LT1. But nothing very shocking. My next build is going to be something much different.

IMHO the only time a LT4 engine is cool is if it came with your car stock. If not I cant see the reason for going out of the way to get a complete LT4 setup. The price for complete H/C/I LT4 Vs HP wouldnt better a LE3/BBcam/ported intake setup.
