Default Different brand of optis

i was looking through the new summit catalog and they have 3 different opti brands available. they have the summit brand, the accel and the GMPP one. i wanted to know what one is the better one to go with. i am just talking about these three not the new msd pro-billet one. has anyone tried the accel or the summit brand? and are they better then the GMPP?

I believe I've heard before that the Scummit opti is just a reboxed Accel opti. My personal opinion is that the GM opti is the best, you're going to have the best odds of sucess, but that said, when mine crapped out I cheaped out and went to O'Reilly's, and just got a new cap and rotor. Still 150 bucks though. I can't complain, haven't had any problems yet. I don't rev mine to 6500 either. To each his own, I'm sure somebody is going to call me a dumbass, so oh well.

I think ellis said the 94 summit opti he got for someone was in an AC DELCO box.

That being said there's a few different brand Optis

Stock GM
Accel
Summit
(Jegs will prolly have one))
MSD

I cant confirm this, but that's what ellis stated. It's weird because the factory opti doesnt use an o-lite bushing, whereas the summit and accel claim to be.

An accel unit better than the stock one, not from what I've read so far.

yeah, its most likely better to stay with the GMPP unit. from what i have heard the MSD unit really is not worth the extra money.

I think that (about the MSD) has to do with a few issues the cap and rotor have... right? like the metal holding screw on the rotoe burning thru the plastic. Isn't that what you posted Matt? Or are their other issues I donno about?

I think if you do some searches, you will see that the Gm one seams to be the one on top. But I can't confirm this. Just that I read that the accel is questionable, I donno why tho.

I've heard nothing but good stuff about the MSD pro billet one... seems to be the only one you don't have to keep replacing all the damn time.... and seeing as I can get them new for 400 that makes 380 on a factory one seem kinda tarded...

dude its brand new you dont know that yet, i doubt anyone has put more than 20k miles on one yet, they just came out like 2 months ago(lol.. i think)
but they do look allot better than the accel POS's, i guess they have allot of problems with the wheel inside not being perfectly rounded

Its pretty assumable they will last longer b/c the design problems w/the optis were addressed in the design of the msd....

I replaced mine with the GMPP and have been really happy with it, no problems at all. Whatever you do, do NOT get one from Auto Zone or Napa or any of those places. I've seen alot of problems come up with those. Stay with Jegs or Summit.

Dunno why the GM part has such a bad rep. I got over 60 k on stock, and another 80 k on the stock replacement I put on just because the motor was out at 62 k... NO problems.

of course, I DONT pressure wash the front of my engine, and mine is sealed.

I found a slight bit of burning after 80k when I took it apart to inspect, cleaned it, and put a bead of silicone over the seal. Looks good for another 50k...

GMPP? I never knew that GMPP was making opti's. I thought they were just regular old Genuine GM parts.

i think the location of the opti is the bigger problem not so much the opti itself. my car has 91k on the original opti, and it is just starting to go out. i cannot think of many other distributors where the cap and rotor last for 90+k miles. so i really cannot complain about the opti.
