finally 11s with budget 383
what a blast this season has been. for the first time the Z was not my daily driver. this allowed me to focus on gettin it into the 11's on motor. started off by picking up a set of 15x10 prostars with 28x10.5 hoosier drags and a spohn torque arm. in installing the torque arm i ran into y-pipe clearance issues so at that point i removed then entire borla exhaust and ypipe and fabbed up a set of 18" extentions with dumps (yeah .... its a little loud) and it was off to the track we went
went up to GLD in early june with the car and discovered a few issues. car was only running 12.7's@110ish mph. the problem was that the 28" tall tire and stock 3.23 gear had turned my 4l60 into a power glide. i was crossing the traps @ 5200 rpms in 2nd gear!!!!!
the next week i ordered a 4.10 gear and bearing kit as well as some matching prostar front skinnies and tires... as well as a used set of front hals
the next outing at the track was an interesting one. started off running a couple of 12.3's @ 112 mph . At this point the car still had everything in it from when i used to DD it. there was full interior as well as the spare/jack still being in the back....so in the pits i decided to remove anything i could get unbolted from the interior of the car. at the same time the sun was setting and the temperature was getting to be perfect. Later that night the car clicked off a 12.005@114.5 with a 1.66 60ft... i was so close to the 11's
fast forward to last weekend.
decided to come home from school and go racing one more time before the white stuff flew. drove down early saturday morning with a couple buddies. Get the car unloaded and first pass off the trailer it goes 11.997@113.5 (1.65). next pass car when slower as i discovered that i had forgotten to hook up they alternator wire and had drained the battery. after getting that fixed the next pass i stalled it up too high and the car creeped forawrd on me. that got me a 12.1@114.1 (1.78). then on the last pass of the day i was able to back up my 11 by clicking off a 11.91@113.6 (1.62)
heres a coupleof pictures shot by member z28camarocarri
overall i am very happy. for a motor that was built on a tight budget, passed emmissions everytime and was daily driven for 3 yrs and 18k it has performed as better than i expected.
as far as next year goes i still bounce back and forth between spraying the 383 or selling it and putting in our 600hp 468 that should be finished soon with some spray. well see
sorry for the novel

Great pics! I have an A4 with 4.10 gears also but I am running out of RPMs a decent amount before the traps. I'm up near 66-6800 or so. I have been debating on whether I should be going down to 3.73 gears or ditching the 26" tire for a 28". Looks like the 28" is working good for you! What kind of RPMs are you turning coming through the traps?

thanks for the complements guys
fergymoto, car seems to love the 4.10 hqavent had a chance to datalog a pass yet but according to the stock tach i am crossing around 6200rpm
LT1Man, car is a A4, the trans has been rebuilt using better clutches and a shift kit but thats about it. converter is a midwest 3000 that behind the stroker stalls to 3600. rearend is a stock 10bolt with a 4.10 and fresh bearings
omaha stylee, the motor setup looks like this
-stock lt1 block, cleaned, bored .030 0ver (still 2bolt)
-scat 9000 series crank (3.75")
-eagle rods
-srp pistons
-stock heads
-gmpp hotcam kit
-stock lt1 intake
-flp long tubes
-30 # accel injectors
lemme know if you have anymore questions

I'm taking it they are forged internals, and I see you are from elk grove, did the guys over at speedinc put the motor together? i am also using a midwest converter, it seems to be a pretty quality product... sounds like if you lost a little weight you could put a kit on the car and spray it into the 10's........ go grab the sawzall

yes the internals are all forgerd, short block was assembled by a local machinist my dad uses for his repair shop, rest of the assembly and installation was done by me. car was tuned by jim over at speed inc. if you are looking to buy a motor i would definately get one through speed as they are one of the best shops around.
i like your thinking on the 10s...shoudl be able to get a 9 with a little creativity (ok so theres nothing creative about spraying it till the rods come out but it should be fun non the less)

Good #'s , best i got N/A was 11.68 @115. What are your 60fts? Might have too much tire on that? My car now bogs on the big 28" slicks when ran n/a and only runs 11.9X's. I need em to spray outta the hole so they stay for now! Now I actually just need to head back to the track since it's cooled off and actuallt spray it outta the hole, lol!
