Default LS1 Brake Conversion

Are the LS1 brakes bigger than the 93 T/A brakes? If so then can I convert by just changing the rotors, or are the calipers different as well? I need more stopping power with 17" wheels. thanks.

My understanding is that for the fronts you need rotors, calipers and the spindles as well. I just bought a nice pair of spindles (sandblasted and painted, really nice shape) off of eBay for $100. Not sure about the axle brackets for the rears though... ANyone?

yea, you need the spindles/rotors/calipers/brackets and bolts... its kinda simple.. it can be done with hand tools in about 6-8 hours... i just did mine this past week.... well worth the money... best mod ever.. i have a 93 TA and those brakes suck... do the conversion.. you will love it..

I only swapped my fronts. The rotor is bigger, and so are the calipers, probably some of the best money I spent on my T/A.

When replacing your steering knuckles make sure the 98-02's are not bent.

Other then that the install is straight forward, and pretty simple.

I recently done the same thing:

picked up a set of spindles(with 34k mile wheelbearings), calipers, brackets, and cross-drilled and slotted rotors for the front. along with the brackets, calipers and backing plates for the back. ALL FOR $60

on an ls1 car the front and rear brakes are about the same diameter. whereas the lt1 brakes are MUCH larger in the rear than the front.

the biggest PITA is going to be busting the ball joints loose from the spindles, but that's about it.

The stock LT1 Rear Brakes are 11", same as the stock LT1 Fronts..
Ball Joints are easy, just put the Castle Nut back on upside-down so it's on it a little bit, and hit it with a Hammer.

Well worth the swap. If doing only the fronts it is a very quick job. Check ebay, I got the two spindles and calipers with abs wire harnesses for $130. Then I used Baer decelerators for a LS1 car, its like getting a Baer brake kit for half the price.

You can use your spindles, you just need to cut the tab off. I'm sure if you search around you can find the area you have to cut off, if you have a way to cut it off it will be way cheaper and you will just need the calipers/rotors.
