a CAI on a stock LT1 is worth around 10 rwhp, give or take a couple. See attached dyno article for one example, i have another article around here that I haven't scanned that is a actual K&N kit on a stock LT1, also worth right at 10 rwhp.

If you combine a CAI, catback, and a PCM tune, which are all pretty cheap and easy to do, you'll be looking at a solid improvement over stock.

I've started threads on cz28.com discussing the results of the TB in that article w/o resolving the issue much. I'd like to see more before after dynos of 52mm TBs myself. I've seen a couple people claim to have read results of like 3 rwhp for a 52mm TB, but I haven't seen the actual dyno or article in question.

I wonder if some of the lower dynoing 52mm TB claims don't have a problem w/ the TPS not reading WOT or something similar after the swap that would effect the numbers heavily. That issue w/ the TPS being off isn't uncommon for those that bolt on aftermarket TBs, wonder if that would explain the poor results in some tests??

I sure would like to know for sure, if a properly setup 52mm yeilded a typical 8-10 rwhp on a bolt on car it would be an excellent mod. As it stands now most people dismiss them. Guess I just need to bite the bullet and buy one and see if it seems to make any difference on mine (headers/catback/CAI/Tune already).

I saw Horsepower TV when they did the bolt-ons an the LT1 Camaro, the TB added 1hp, and like 0.something torque. Not worth the couple hundred in my opinion, unless you are a stroker, or forced-induction.

Yeah I think I saw that episode way back when. Still makes me wonder, the results for the CAI and catback in the article above weren't out of line w/ other tests, why would their 52mm TB test be way off if they are truly only worth a couple rwhp? I really wonder about a TPS problem or similar...

For the original poster, here's another scan of a CAI dyno, I decided I better scan it before I lose these things in my mountain of old magazines. Not the whole article though, just the dyno result table. Worth 10 rwhp after the exhaust had already been added and tested:

http://bellsouthpwp.net/j/s/jstriet/LT1dyno.jpg

Pretty crappy results they got for the headers/exhaust, a whooping 9 rwhp. It should be noted it is a OBDII dual cat LT1 and those are the crappy dual cat edelbrock headers w/ I assume the stock dual cat y-pipe and stock cats though.

The Torque in that one seems low in the Power Band..
