Default First time on the dyno and the last time for a while

Well I was pumped on Friday night when I went to fort wayne to stay with my brother, because Dyno day was Saturday morning at Brenspeed. The car felt strong and I was excited. So Saturday we go thier and I get on the dyno.

First Pass 272hp 314tq. (On Motor)
I was happy with these number AFR was around 12.6

Second Pass (On Bottle) BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMM
As soon as he hit it my car blew black smoke out like it was a diesel and then a sound that was like a shotgun going off by my head. I ran to my car and look down at the engine and all I saw was oil just pooring out of the pan!!!!

I was so pissed off. It appears that it shattered a piston and broke the rod in half which is what put a huge hole in the oil pan.

So now I am going to build a 383 for it and I have been looking for kits and was wanting an opioion on what kit to buy.

I saw that Victory has a Eagle all Forged for like 1400, or I can get the Victory kit with the dragonslayer crank, callies rods, and JE pistions. What one will hold a 250 shot better. I figure if I am going to build it I am wanting to do it the right way.

Also what size cam would you guys recommend. I am really wanting to biuld a low 11 high 10 car. I already have a great set off heads ready for it just not sure what cam to put in with them.

Any and all opionins wanted.

Thanks
James

I think AFR is what it was Non-power adder...If not....100 shot might be enough to go over the edge if already abused/weakend pistons from prior N2O runs...

"ABA 383" I have been following your progress...Congrats on 11.3's run...With cooler spring weather maybe high 10's. I hope to get mine back out at the track this weekend(weather permitting). Last time second gear was dead due to fuel pump going bad...Hopefully, I can pick up another 1/2 second...

Hey thanks Jimbob...I think I've maxed out my combo for now...My little 226/234 is about at its limit...Those 11.3 runs were in some of the best weather I've ever seen...I need to capitalize on suspension now...QA1s, a 6 point bar, maybe true duals, and 3.90s over my 3.73s...I wanted to see 120 traps, but I'll take 119.75...I always say I'm done, but these things are never done...hahaha...YOU'VE got wicked mph by the way

ya, the 12.6 afr was on motor. I have been running a 150 for about a year now. i probably got 100 passes on a 150 shot. That is between the trach and street races mostly.

Too bad it had to go on the dyno..."Screws the day for sure." 100 or so runs + street is a lot of Nitrous passes on those stock pistons, especially on a 150 shot... Hopefully you can come back even stronger.....

Welcome to the Club of Broken Cars my friend..
I am putting in Forged Pistons and Rods, they should hold up to Spray if I wanted to hit them with it. I am just putting back in a 350 though..

well thanks for letting me in the club!!! I am going to build this motor to hold what ever I want to throw at it. Anyone have any suggestions on a killer 383 build. I have a great set of heads that flowed 301 intake, cant remember exhaust. I just need t know what cam to put in and if you all thought i should buy the eagle forged kit for 1400 or the victory kit for 2500. Ideas please. I would like to put 450 - 500 at the wheels on motor when done, and i will be spraying it.

Merv "350 are you sure you didn't mean to say 355."

As far as a 383 the options are endless. As long as you do the research you should be able to build a 400 HP easily and then add the additional NOS. Remember to spend the money on the forged internals and pistons so it doesn't happen again.
Good Luck

Oh thats why you always bring a video camera to the Dyno...

110k, spun a rod bearing which shot metal into the pan, the screen got blocked, and it stopped the oil to the Mains, and spun 4 out of 5.
I am just building the LT1 back to a 350, and running with that. Something simple on the street. I did Port my Heads, and it is running quick for what it was already.

Well actually it did get video taped by a guy in the crowd that was standing at the back of my car so as soon as he gets it sent to me I will post it so you guys can share in my joy. LOL.... My car had 83k on it when it popped. I will be going with a forged bottom end for sure and 4 bolt conversion. I dont want this to happen agian, or at least not for a few years anyway.

was there any given reason for the failure? did it lean out, or did it just had enough, and took a poop.

at this point i am not sure. I dont have the space to pull the engine and just have the car sit in the way, so unfortunatly i will have to wait until i get the 383 done. I will check the fuel sileond as soon as i get a chance though and let you know. I am wondering the same thing myself
