Default GTP/Jensen Heads....(Pics)

So i got a set of these GTP ported LT-1 heads for REAL cheap. I gave them to a local engine builder Andy Jensen and he cleaned them up and did a valve job. Just thought id share pics. I plan on running the GM-847 cam and these heads. Should make a stout motor

Look unported, or atleast they just did a gasket match. The boss for the valve guides look untouched.

yeah the runners do look like they were evened out a little and probably had a valve job but they left the rest untouched

Looks like the runners were bead blasted clean to me. That took away a lot of the 'polish' look you see with ported heads.

GTP did some good stuff back in the day. You get any flow numbers on them?

My LS6 heads are GTP, but I consider mine "below average" for performance (for a $4k+ set of heads). Buddy of mine has a set of GTP LS1 heads, and they perform VERY well.

the heads have been glassbeaded, and cleaned up. i bought them from a well known tuner (i wont state his name) for 200 bucks. but he stated them to flow 265 intake / 210 exhuast. now im not head expert but they didnt look "ported" to me and i questioned it. now the engine builder i took them to, said they had mild port work done. compared to the le2 head that were posted, they are nowhere near that....i think ive been had....

The LE heads are AFR castings to start, so lt1 castings wont look as good anyway, but you can see how a well ported head will have the valve guide boss machined down. I think yours are gasket matched and smooth out, no bowl work... just a stge 1 type job. Probably will make 15-20hp over stock heads.

When compared to how other porting companies measure them (like AI or LE), no I dont think they are true just based on looking at the ports...

Have them flowed by a seperate shop... unrelated to the project. Just to get an unbiased result...

Well im not blaming anyone here. I guess it was too good to be true when you buy a set of "ported" heads for 200 bucks. Im still in college, but graduating here in january and funds are getting low, trying to get these heads straightened out. Im going to do alittle research and call Craig at GTP and talk with Andy at Jensen engine tech, to see what they have to say. Im also going to talk to some local machine shops to see if they can flow heads and what not...Thanks for clearing things up guys, and helping me out here. I will keep you all posted.

I just got off the phone with Craig at GTP. I must say he is a stand up guy, and had a "hunch" of what might have happened. He said that other companies where using there name on port matched heads, and got them into alot of trouble. He said i might have gotten a set of those heads, that were still floating around.....the one thing i dont understand is, why he charges 1800 bucks just for porting stock heads???

he also stated that if they were his heads, then i would know it....meaning he took alot of material out of them....
