Default Looking at an LT1

Now before you guys say it, I know I should be looking at LS1s, but I'm looking at LT1s now. I was wondering if those of you with personal experience with the LT1 could give me some experience/words of wisdom.

I found an M6 Z28 hardtop that I kinda like. It appears to be all stock, and pretty damn clean. The trick is, it has 106,000 miles.

Any thoughts? He's asking $4,599, which is something I could almost pay off.

Looks like a fairly nice LT1. Lots of guys on this forum have 120k+ miles on their cars and they all run pretty well, so if thes not problems i say go for it.

i got almsot 120k on mine and its run ahrd and strong all day long. and before I get flamed lemme put my fire suit on....ok

with my *PERSONAL* experience of SEEING these cars, it seems the LT1 outlasts the LS1 anyhow. ive seen LT1's in the 250k miles range but i have yet to see an ls1 break 180k

The LT1 body style is starting to grow on me. I like the LS1 style more, but the LT1s look pretty nice, IMO.

What about Opti-Spark? I see a lot of people complaining about it, but I also see people saying it's not that bad.

Are there kits to replace Opti-Spark with coil-packs like on the LS1? I tried searching on this one and didn't find anything.

That might have something to do with the LT1 F-body's being around 5 years longer....

Take a look in the 'vehicles for sale' section. I have my LT1 in there gauging interest.

The Opti spark is not a bad thing. Its not the greatest technology, but it works good.
Its more to do with improper installation than anything.
Many bbody taxi cabs have over 200K on the original opti, and many Fbody LT1 owners have good luck with their opti's.... like me.

I bought my car with 70K, it now has 115K. Never had a single problem. No codes, misfires, leaks, noises etc...

Take the car for a test drive and see how it feels.
My Z28 was very tight when I bought it, and thats what you should look for.

I love mine and it was better for me to start with cause it was about 5 grand cheaper than an LS1. Which means I was able to spend that money in more mods

Oh I bought mine for $7500 with 49,500 miles.

its not just a factor of how long theyve been out, ive seen a 97 model with i think 252k on it, now why could a 98 have close to that?

not gonna start a war on which is more reliable but what I have seen for myself, the lt1 has lasted longer than the ls1 has

I had a95 LT1 A4 car with 2.73's. It was decently fast, used no oil, and only had a LITTLE knock on start-up when the oil was dirty (i.e. getting near change-time around 2500 miles...dino oil). It ran SOLID, didnt smoke, was a GREAT car. The tranny was replaced at 140K miles as was a twisted in half axle *(neutral drops I bet...done just before sold by previous owner). I had no troubles with it until I sold it at 170K running strong (but worked on as I had a little "incident" in it...).

Yes, not sure on differences in them ant the LS1 ones, minimal im sure unless its a 93 or 94 I think, those were different in the power they were rated at, or maybe it was just the 93's, I dont know.

YES! We had a 95 Firehawk at our dealership and it did NOT feel as tight as my 95 TA AT ALL!!! (It was also smoking and had benn juiced/heads/cam ect.) the tightness/looseness is a good general indicator as is door-sag.

Yep theyve got the t56. The LT1 version is slightly stronger than the ls1 T56, the input shafts are different.

Thanks on the info. I didn't know it was actually the same thing.

I'm going to see what I can do about seeing it this upcoming weekend.
