So you guys think it I left it poking out, and dropped one of the SLP lids on it, it would look better..

I think when i take everything off to do the Free Ram Air mod on the Formula, maybe this weekend? I'll test fit it on the Z28 to see how everything fits...

Looks really nice but does anyone have any dynoproven hp. I have a k&n cold air kit on my lt1 and I want to know if it is worth the hassel to change to a ls1 intake style system.

-Thanks

IMO, dyno results may not be noticed, this mod would probably show up more on the drag strip where the air is being forced into the box, rather than the CAI set up where it is being sucked into the filter.

You cut a hole in your hood to mount an LS1 air intake with a stock, restrictive as hell, not to mention ugly, airlid?

Th whole LS1 air intake thing just looks better, I don't think it flows better than a nice 3" round LT1 cold air. My IATs are much higher since going with the LS1 air setup with the SLP lid. I certainly did not feel any HP gain, if anything, I lost HP. Most of the intake air passes in front of the hot radiator before getting to the air filter.

I will be going back to a LT1 CAI very soon. My old 9" K/N had alot more filter area to draw in air than the LS1 air filter too.

BTW- IMO-Thee best air intake for an LT1 is a factory WS6 air box setup that seals to a ram air hood. I used to run this setup and my IATs were never higher than the ambient temps, not to mention the ram air effect.

i ran a new best mph after i did the ls1 lid swap. it was only like a .50-.75 gain but still thats a gain. this was over the slp cold air. my iac didnt change one bit with it. once at wot it would only be a few degrees over the outside temp
but not worth the work/money

Although it looks nice, I never thought the SLP cold air would be that great due to the twin tube design. With 2 pipes, there is more interior pipe wall than 1 large pipe. The more interior pipe wall, the more resistance.

You say you gained .50-.75? Thats a half a second or more, I would say thats alot. I don't believe you picked up close to a full second because of an air intake switch, unless you had the stock setup before.

I noticed faster times when I had just put it on the old motor. I trapped over 110mph, and it was better in the higher end. I don't have any specifics yet..

As far as LT1 cold air intakes, a 3" pipe has more surface area than two 2" pipes.

I like what the_merv has done. The cut in the hood looks good and clean. I think the LS1 intake is better than the LT1 design, so it should make more power.

I dont have any dyno before and after for this setup on a LT1... I do have a stock LS1 lid vs. Aftermarket lid ON A LS1 comparison below. Stock LS1 lid has all these ridges and stuff inside it... the aftermarket lid brought up the HP and TQ about 10 points.

Hey Merv : Thank you for the photos. I'm not a fan of cutting the hood like that but, it definitely made it 100% clear that some sort of modification is needed to make it fit without cutting the hood up majorly.

Anything can be done as long as it looks clean.. Most people wouldn't do that, but I like to try different things.

I'm very interested in the LS1 intake on a LT1 using the stock & unmodified LS1 radiator shroud, and WITHOUT modifying whatever hood you have. Would you guys that have this setup working please make mention of what hoods your using? I have seen mention of the Ultra-Z working and possibly the VFN Sunoco hood but, are these just ideas or will these hoods work perfect for what I'm saying? Anybody? Anywhere? Bueller?....

I picked up about 190rwhp with mine, but then again, I also swapped out the motor as well.
