Default crappy track--and rear end question

well i went to the track a couple of nights ago. 13.9 @99---( the car would not sghift into 4th gear. it was at the top of 3rd, and it just sat there at 6000rpm, and i just let off, then like the whole car shook and then it went into gear,--- this happend right after the 1/8 of mile. I was slamming a GTO ls1 vehicle.... and then all that happend, and he took me out . oh well. 2.200 on the sixty

next run--- (keep in mind garbage tires)(what ever comes stock)(and there dry rotted). so i let them down to 15 psi.

i heated them up a good amount. went 13.7@105, sixty was 2.300--- worse,
and same **** again, got tto the top of 3rd gear, and happend all over again. would not shift, i let off and just feathered it through , and it was a little better. --------------------------------------i was still spinning past the sixty..

so well--factory tune
factory tyres
3.23 a4
355
longtubes
pulleys
x pipe with 3 inch through dumps
hotcam with all the valvetrain stuff
3 angle valve job,
portmatched. and ported kinda and polish to mirror on the exhaust side of head.
e-waterpump

i was suppose to get a tune 4 days ago, and ended not being able to make it.to the dyno. well goto this week, and

my next problem is.. after the dyno and tires, i think im going to break this rear end. .. anything that i can do about that(cheap)that is. (i know long shot

You shouldnt even be coming close to going into fourth gear with 3.23s. The top of your third gear is well over 120mph. What am i missing?

I was hitting fourth with my 2.73 A4 when I went to the strip. When I left it in drive the rev limiter would kick in.

I hit third down at the big end and run a 14.0 in my 2.73 A4 LT1.

p.s. your 60' was worse cuz you have crappy *** stock street tires and they dont want to be heated up.

He is, I can see it. Stock tune he is shifting at 5,400 RPM with them gears. I got 3.73's and shift at 6,100 RPM, and almost come close to 4th. I trap over 110mph, and my shift is at 115mph to 4th.

what u mean u shift. ---- how do u do it.. do u put it in manual 1 and then shift manually into 2 and 3rd and so on?...
cus i thought the best way to do it from a dig was to put it into drive 4 and just take off. well i mean kinda hold the brake and give it gas.. sumthing like that

well ok back to the rear end. what are u people running before u break it. i mean the car has like 155000 miles.... and when the 10 bolt breaks, what part of it breaks? let me know. .

1.) get some tire....a heads/cam car, even untuned, won't hook on street tires.
2.) get the tune
3.) do not manually shift a 4L60e....its "e" for a reason. put it in 3rd (D) and let her rip.
4.) I still don't see how you are hitting 4th, I assume just from stock gearing and tune. If, after the tune, you still continue having this problem, either change the gear ratio and retune for that, or run a 28" tall tire.

No A4 car should be hitting OD running ETs that you are.

as for the rear end, it will hold up for a bit, but when it breaks, they break hard......many pieces can come apart in them, but usually the fix is to just replace the posi, or ring/pinion, or axles...whatever it may be......but once it goes, you have a few options..

1.) cheapest of which being a replacement posi unit, such as the eaton, or auburn. Along with that you can upgrade the ring and pinion, as well as upgraded axle shafts, rear end covers, all kinds of ****...you can build a pretty well bullit-proof 10 Bolt....but its not worth it IMHP.

2.) The other options are a little more expensive, lol, but well worth it if you're gonna be running quick short times!

- - -a 12 bolt or Ford 9". You will need to do your research on them and prolly consult with a performance shop before purchase, but it is your best bet if you're gonna be making big power and hope to 60' 1.6 or better consistantly.

Hope this helps!

I put it in D and let it go. That is the best for an Auto. My tune shifts it at 6100RPM. Even on a dig, I leave it in D sometimes, cause as soon as it shifts down, I am throwing that power on the ground. As far as the Rears, the Spider Gears are usually what goes. That's what happened with mine anyways, I stripped them right out of it.
