Well. . . I ran 11.0 at 123 mph in a 3rd gen SBC with a 383 and AFR 210's, N/A at full street weight. . . with a "shitty off the shelf crap cam." It was the 847 cam (234/242). It wasn't so bad if you ask me.

And before that, I had the same cam in the same car with a 8.3/1 360 and made 350 rwhp and ran 11.9 at 114 mph.

So, you can make decent power with low compression AND an off the shelf "crap cam."

If that motor were mine, I would do whatever it takes to get the heads flowing 280 cfm, raise the compression to 11/1, and install either the 847 cam or the Stumpy cam, depending on how much time you want to spend tuning. These parts should make 420 - 450 rwhp and get you in or near the 10's at 120+ mph.

Thats you, now what about all those other "people" who cant get out of there own shadows!!!!!

You know what im talking about, Ive seen threads for the past 2 years about the Same Cams!WHY?! People play follow the leader way way to much.

No one wants to try anything new, or pay a couple dollers for a custom grind.

there is alot of people going fast on cc306 and GM847 cams... I DID NOT SAY they were better than a custom grind... but if he is looking to save 100 bucks and still have a pretty good cam he can get one of those... I also said he can call comp they have quite a few grinds for 300 bucks... or you can call Joe O or AI and get a custom grind for 350-400 bucks... It all depends on how fast he wants to go and what budget he is working on. Comp and Gm didnt put those cams on the shelf unless they worked pretty well though

Your not going to get many cam recommendations because of the variables involved.

Ok here's the deal in a nutshell.....Compression, cam and heads...If your looking for 11.5 Compression with that 383. I would look for something in ABA"s 383 cam size. Mid 220ish/230's cam. This on a 107-110 lsa, Icl around 106 would keep your DCR up around 8.5-8.8 depending on ABDC of the intake lobe. This, with a verter of 4000 plus flash stall should work GOOD with any combo of LT1 head (small runner, small cross section) on your 383. Now for more rpm range (needing more gear a good stall) try something in the low 230's Intake duration/240ish exhaust. If your had bigger cross section on your head, say like mine you would want a little more cam in there to up the RPM where max hp is made. If 12 to 1 engine your going to need a good size 240ish intake duraion to bleed pressure off (again keeping the DCR down below 9 to 1 by using a latter closing ABDC). This also all depends on gearing/stall and weight of vehicle. Hope this helps your quest for......

Oh, yeah "ABA 383"
Ellis tried the new intake out last week. Made way to much power on a cold day and spun to a 1.7 sixty (instead of low 1.5's). Then he had to back out of it twice before the 1/8 mile due to lack of traction...Still ran a 11.7 though.....I think it's on track to run a 11.1 (full weight) this spring....
Sweet! Sounds like Ellis is going to be flying once he gets it to hook...I'm going to start to get serious with the suspension, look into true 3" duals, and maybe a gear swap to 3.90s or 4.10s...If I can get into the 1.40s to 60' things will really get interesting...Now if I could just convince my wife that all of those items are needed for "routine maintenance..."

Opps, I did not explain it well...That's my car....Ellis tried his the same day with his, and was all over the track...To bad too, as he did run a 4.1ish in the 330 foot...Had a friend that changed to true duals and did not see much of a difference...except the weight loss...and louder...He was running a B@B exhaust with e-cutout prior to the duals...The gears may help you the most if your not already out of the power band with that cam....Im going to take off the front and rear bumper supports this winter and that's about it. But I'll being putting it all back with a N2O bottle...

I know we dont want to put the gm847 in it because we will have to do valve changing to the heads so we dont have piston slap....advice needed on a better cam then hotcam and how to make this 383 put out more!

P.s this was though no cats and a dual cut outs qtp 3" exhaust with headers and an intake k&n system
The first thing that came to mind was your computer program. Who tuned it?

if you can spring for it, swap the cam for something bigger, and put a supercharger on the car. dont mess with the shortblock.
How is 7.4@92 almost 10's in the 1/4? Thats high 11's.

thats my other car.... this one went 7.19@96 so far. coulda woulda shoulda been an 11.20 pass. would be faster with a 26" tire instead of the 28's. its setup for nitrous right now.
you should see it in the 9's before the end of this year, and i want it to outrun the current stock shortblock LT1 record. (9.83 i think)

Default 383

I would take it to the track first and see what it does. I helped build the same combo 383 with 9.5 and hot cam stock ported heads I did not put the 2.0 valves in it eather. We where going to put a blower on it but ran out of money. On the dyno it made 325 rwhp and 390 rwt. We took it to the track and it went 11.68 @111 mph with a 1.56 60' I do not think that is a bad combo do you?

the tuning may not be great, but lets face it... a 9.5:1 hocammed LT1 headed car aint gonna make much more power than that through an A-4
