Default STS Turbo

Can someone please tell me a little about the STS Turbo for LT1's. How does it work and how much is it? Also, is it difficult to install? Does it cause problems, or make your vehicle more unreliable.

I read that some LT1's were making about 400Rwhp with the STS...

They are a sponsor here on tech.

http://www.ststurbo.com/

The STS kits can put down some pretty decent power, but for the same price you could build a Mild Heads and Cam package.

So, the cheapest you can get a set up is 4,000. That's a little much...

No, that is just a lot of money...I could put a 100 shot of nitrous on my car for 500 bucks and be just as fast. (Maybe even a little quicker)

Besides, im not trying to make a drag car. So, putting down 4,000 isn't really logical. Ported heads/cam is no where close to being that much.

I agree, it would be nice to do a heads and cam package. What kind of heads should i get? (specs) If anyone knows the price, that would be good as well. I want my car to be streetable. I also don't want a huge cam either. A Hotcam is somewhere i would want to be.

You can get heads and cam taken care of through Lloyd Elliot, just search (i think that's how his name is spelled). Prices are on his page.
When you have all the parts required to properly run nitrous, it's going to be more than 500 bucks. You could always go with used parts though. Same can be said for turbo/supercharger setups. You can find used kits around 2k-2500. Hope you can install everything yourself if you're worried about money..

Im not worried about money. I just can't see myself spending so much money on something, when i can go another route and be just as fast spending less...That kind of stuff bothers me, lol.

Companys that do excellent port work are all over.

www.portpros.com <---Sponsor
www.totalengineairflow.com <---Sponsor
www.eportworks.com <--- Non-Sponsor
www.advancedinduction.com <--- Non-Sponsor

You will need to do some searching all over the web and make some phone calls to see what will best suit you, nobodys one setup is a like.

Good Luck!

Tony.

Cmon Speed you know those last two will get canned lol

Forgot to take into effect refilling the bottle, tuning the ECU and getting a retard-box. The STS isn't for drag, it's DD's who like power. Why not get a supercharger if you're so bent on the STS cost heh

Heads, cam, headers, good tune is my opinion.

Sunday when I ran my first two 11.9s setting the b-body heads/cam record there was an STS f-body there, ETs were not that great for the MPH, he was running 12s at like 118mph. No idea whatelse was done to the car I was too busy with my own thing to check it out that closely. My heads and cam on an f-body would be damn near his MPH, that is why I posted it.

You want stock mannered power with minimal upkeep the STS might be the better choice. If you have a real need for speed start with a good heads/cam package and complimentary mods will still drive great but will not sound stock if done well, then add to that later.

Nitrous is NOT as cheap as $500 if you want to be safe. Should run a bottle heater, aftermarket ignition with retard and rev limit, window switch is a damn good idea too, fuel pressure safety switch, fuel pump upgrade(for all methods of making power) etc. MUCH more than just the $500 kit is needed unless you are trying to blow the engine and tranny.

but nitrous runs out.......... turbos/charger/h/c doesnt..... just something to look into... and with nitrous eventually you will have keep refilling... and you will be at the same price of a charger/turbo...... so.... plus the power and sound of a h/c is always better....
