Default Question about opti..

i just got my 355 back in the car. ive checked the firing order amillion times and i kno its getting fuel. wen i turn it over, it spins, then stops and kinda stops, blows out of the tb and then stops? i was thinking the opti isnt in correct? because i didnt put number 1 to tdc and point the rotor to number 1, but i read u dont have 2? whats my problem?

It only goes on one way. Onless you were to force the opti on with the splines messed up. Did you check all ignition related fuses?

i have not. im pretty sure the opti went on easy, i didnt force it in with the bolts or anything. it just seems like its not firing correctly because it doesnt spin easy and then stops and pops thro the tb? where are all the ignition fuses..

Popping through the TB is usually an ignition problem, at least in my exoerience it is. I'd check the opti alignment again.

did you just build this motor? if you did then did you line up the dots on the cam and crank gear? It wasent hard for me but i also put the opti on the wrong way my first time.

Yeah, if it is a 2nd gen opti it will fall into the cloverleaf part REAL easily and look right. I would recheck it. I must have removed and re-installed my opti 2 dozen times this last summer and it NEVER went in right the first time, always took a bit of fidgetting.

I can get mine in like 2 sec, then I take it off and check it to make sure. The easiest way I have found to do it is put the Cam Pin in the 12:00 position, and the OPTI slot when lined up has a vent hole that you can see from the top when it is in the right spot. Once you see it, slide it in.

That year model I believe has a little spline shaft with a keyway on it.

That little keyway is like a driveshaft, it kinda bumps around, but once it finds it, it's in. You don't have to have anything TDC, just line up that keyway and make sure your plug wires are correct, and you will be money.

The 93 Opti's can be put in wrong. I have put mine on 180 dergees out and it went on easy. I didn't have it put back together before I test started it, I just tried firing it up with the opti bolted up and the water pump sitting on the intake and realized I had a problem. Mine is a 93.
