Ok,
I have a CC305 cam sitting in my room with 1.6 rockers, hardened pushrods, guideplates, stud bolts, gaskets, timing chain, etc... on the way.
I am now at the point where I am second guessing my decision on this selection. I have listened to a few sound clips that I have found of the two cams.
I am wondering if the 305 is too weak, and almost wouldnt be worth the trouble?
Please chime in with your opinions. I am looking for a cam that will still pass emissions, have a nice lope nothing too much, and produce good power.
Also post some sound clips if you have them, thanks!

I have the 503 in my SS and love it. The car has a lope but has great street and strip manners. It ran a hell of alot better at the track than I thought it would.

same here, I have a 503 in my formula, and you couldn't pay me enough to sell it for something else...
my car makes more low-end power than it did with the stock cam-LT's only it PEAKED 306rwtq@4200... my car makes that much now at 2k!!! it picked up considerably in the mid range and top end as well.
funny thing about it though, my car peaks at 5700, stock is 5200, IIRC.
and there's no need to shift it insanely high in the rpm range, shifting it at 6200 or 6300 does just as well as shifting at 6500 or 6600..
if torque all across the board is what you want, go with a 503...

i have a friend that has the 305 and another friend who has the 503 and i have been in both cars and they are both good mild cams. 503 has more lope but both cams seem to be good cuz they are happy with what they got.

On my old set up, I had a CC305 on a 112lsa in my 383 with Hooker LT's, mildly ported heads, electric water pump, 6speed, Borla exhaust. It made 365rwhp and 388 rwtq. 1.6 rr's intake and 1.5 rr's on exhaust. Hp peaked at 5700 rpm and tq peaked around 3400, although it was already making 350rwtq at 2500 rpm. Had a nice choppy idle--I mean everyone would turn around and look. Made tons of torque down low--great cam for the street in my opinion, i.e. very responsive. On a 114 lsa the power would probably be moved up the rpm range just a little, which is what I would recommend. Also the wider lsa would be better for emissions, although I would check with Comp Cams about that issue before installing it.
Just depends on your goals for the car and other mods. I probably would have made a lot more hp with some good heads. I can send you a dyno chart if that would help. Just e-mail me at: wdkdds@Comcast.net and put "Dyno chart" in the subject line so that I will be sure to open it.

so it seems that the 503 is winning over the 305. I wish i could here some sound clips with cars that have similar mods.
I have the 305 sitting in my room and im not sure what i want to do now. hmmmm
What are the numbers on the 503?

the only difference between the two are the 503 has a little less lift on the intake but a little more duration. so they are very comparable. with stock heads either of them would be a good choice. anything bigger would just compromise drivability and would be too much for the stock head.
cc503 503/510 lift 224/230 duration
cc305 510/510 lift 220/230 duration

I think it somewhere around a 232/244 or something like that at 112 with 1.6 rockers
