Default Main stud torque spec

Got ARP main studs on the way since my engine is out. Thought I would clean up and upgrade a few things. I'm thinking the studs will have a slip with specs on it when I open the package but I just wanted to do my homework. I looked on ARP's website and the only specs they have are for rod bolts. The Chilton manual didn't seem to have anything either. What's the proper torque specs for main studs in an LT1?

It is the same as any other SBC. Make sure to use the moly lube on the threads before torqueing them down. You should be able to torque them to 65 ft/lbs with the moly lube, but if you plan to use engine oil, torque them to 70 ft/lbs.

These torque specs are for bolts, he's got studs.
For the original poster, did you know that you have to align hone the block/mains to allow using studs? The studs clamp the mains differently so it must be align honed.
I was planing on going with studs but when I found out there are no align honning machines where I lived I just went with ARP bolts.

Bolts or studs doesn't matter. The torque is the same.

That's just it, I didn't have the spec. But I got it now. I'm hoping there's a small tube of lube in the pack.

I have not heard that before. It's the same caps, same bearings, I'm not sure why a new set of studs would require an align bore/hone.

It really depends on what engine you have. Technically speaking you should line hone your caps to the the studs. Studs and bolts apply pressure differently as they are tightened. You should be fine without a line hone on your engine block. If you had a 70's LT1 then you would need to for sure line hone your caps.

I double checked with ARP, he said check the tolerances but I should hone it (he admitted he had to cover his butt). He also said that if it looked good, then just run it. My buddy that's gonna be double checking me said we should be fine too.

Yeah that's what the slip said. I followed that and engine runs fine now.
