Default opinions on this cam?

cam

What would you guys think of this cam on an LT1 that has stock heads with crane springs that are good to 1.100 bind and 1.6 RRs with manley performance valves? The motor will have an eagle rotating assembly with .020 over -5cc flattops and 5.700 i beam rods with a 3.480 stroke. Basically stock with a few upgrades. I will be running LTs and ORY.

This is my temp. get her running motor so keep that in mind.

If the springs can handle the lift, then maybe. That's a big cam for stock heads, IMO. It's known as the GM847 cam I believe so you can search around for that. I also think it's a very lazy cam and old technology. Look into the CC306 or an xfi grind from Comp.

The 306 is also a pretty old cam....
The Comp XFI grinds are a little better. The Comp 503 is a great cam for stock heads and bolt-ons. I think comp has a new line coming out don't they?

Yes, xfi lobes are the newest design and what I'm going to run. I didn't see you had stock heads. Get something smaller like the cc503.

Ok, from just looking at specs the 503 seems to be a smaller cam than the hotcam. Am I misreading this? The duration is higher on the 503 at 276/281 to where the hot cam is 218/228, but the lift on the 503 is only 503/510 as to the 525/525 on the hotcam.
Looking at these numbers make it look like the 503 is smaller than the hotcam.

The stock heads are what will hurt you.

If your bottom end is not forged I would not spin it to 6500 RPM
YOu will need ported heads for something like that to work WELL IMO

the bottom end has 5140 forged rods but hypereutic pistons and a cast crank. Like I stated above this is not an all out power motor, it is a temporary run till my other motor is done. So I am just looking for something that would be better than stock.

Lunati Voodoo part # lun-60121 or lun-60122. Depending on what size cam you want.
Bigger Of The Two Cams Seems To Be Closer To What Your Looking For!

I also think there is a lun-60123 you may like! Take a look and see what you think.

You really need to read up on cam specs, A LOT. First, those are the advertised duration numbers for the 503 and @.050 numbers for the hotcam. Second, the lift numbers on the 503 are with 1.5 RR and the hotcam numbers are with 1.6 RR. Look here:
http://www.z28.com/forum/showthread.php?t=58050

I haven't seen anyone run those Lunati cams, but they look like they are in between the CC cams as far as duration, same as the xfi as far as ramp rates and more lift. I'd say make sure you get whatever springs they recommend and make sure you have enough spring pressure to control them, just like the xfi cams. I might try one of those if I were to buy a new cam, but I wouldn't run it with stock heads.

EDIT: Call Lunati first since Summit has it listed as NOT computer compatible, but I don't know exactly what that means.

Agree, that cam is too big for stock heads, If you drop down on the duration you car will actually be faster, Seems like no one likes the Hot Cam which is also made by crane, But back when my car was stock, I had the LT4 hot cam with the RR's and bolt ons and ran 12.6 with an A4, 3600 stall, stock 342 gears..
