Guess I'm assuming the balancer is to, since it is on the 400's...haven't actually looked that closely to see if it is offset weighted though..
I believe it is strictly for removing the first 3 harmonics, which are the ones that do the most vibration (and hence damage).

So dude, did you mount the stock damper on the March UD pulley? It looks as if you didn't, you're lucky you didn't cause more damage.
Thank you for not calling me an idiot and jumping to the conclusion I did everything so wrong...First of all, "I" never put the March Pulley set on. I had it installed at a prominent mechanic shop. I wouldn't want to make the mistake of something mentioned...

After all of this, I bet all of you would like to know how it was put on. All i will say, is that it was installed exactly how that picture looks. Except, i don't have that cool looking MSD opti.

really, man I that is weird that you are breaking chains if the balancer is on there. I would take it back to the shop where you got it worked on and say Hey BRO WHAT THE HECK!

Anyways, I didnt call you an idiot? what the heck bro? just kidding

What idiot called you an idiot?
But seriously, I find it odd that the breaking of the timing chain followed the installation of the pulley. I would certainly talk to the shop manager about what happened.
I did a check on the crank, it is internally balanced.

Z 2 8, please take it with a grain of salt. Most members here try their best to help. Sometimes, however, they can get carried away (usually away from their 2nd 6 pack ). Best of luck with the shop.

To answere my own question...The flexplate/flywheel is crucial to the internal rotating balancing on LT1 motors - just like a 400 chevy small block. However, the harmonic balancer is not...any drilled holes in it is just for balancing it - it is a nuetral balance componet.....it is, of course, very crucial to take the harmonics out...

ah, I figured that was the way it was set up, but I wasnt sure
Anyways, yea Harmonic Vibrations kill any kind of rotating equipment simply because the Harmonic power series it just adds and adds and adds up finally overtaking the material up and past its yield strength limit

Maybe it was me, I said, "UR DUM" and I stand by that statement. Why? Because you slam March for breaking you timing chain, because you didn't have a balancer. Now, it doesn't matter whether you installed the March pulleys without the balancer or the shop did.

Either way, don't come online and villify March. They are not responsible for the timing chain failure. I have literally 10 years and over 250 1/4mile passes on my March pully on the stock short-block with the stock timing chain. So if your chain broke because of a lack of balancer or because of some other unknown circumstance don't blame March. Don't tell others not to buy March.

In other words DON'T be. " UR an A HOLE."

Ive had mine on for almost 2years and never had a problem (also stock timing chain 138k miles).

Hope you find what or who caused the problem.
