I finally got to see one in person two weekends ago at the Carolina auto fair. Edelbrock had one at their booth. It looked real nice, but I wouldnt pay $400 bucks for it, esp for 5hp increase.

I'm thinking about getting one just for the cool factor and one thing for certain is that, with any basic bolt on intake (carb or efi) they will come base cast, no porting cleaning or shitelse. So, When I get mine, I'm gonna end up cleaning up the runners and matching them to the ports on my heads, (BIG). But the true gain is keeping the heat off the runners.

If you're still running an EGR system, it's worthless. The heat is still there.

The next engine I take to the engine dyno, (after a special blower motor that goes to the dyno May 4th), will have an LT1/LT4 intake manifold curiosity test. The dyno cost me a ton of money so it's mid priority and not top priority.

the loosely layed plan right now is to test 4 versions of LT1 manifold on an AI headed, AI cammed 383LT1<----built by me.

1st a GMLT1 bone stock (no internal thermal coating)
2nd a GMLT1 sorta stock (but with the "stonebreaker" internal epoxy thermal coating)
3rd a GMLT1 fully ported (but not coated) by A.I.
4th an Edelbrock LT1 (bone stock).

It will not be scientific testing but it will be testing none-the-less. I am very interested in the thermal coating and air gap.

Karl

Maybe by June 2007. No hurry and no promise.

Well, I just emailed Edelbrocks technical staff on this product. I asked them for the real world rear wheel HP numbers/increase on a stock or lightly modified car, along with some other questions. It is going to be interesting to read their answer.

Didn't see this thread but good luck to the Dyno guppy.
If this Air Gap Intake doesnt net atleast 12-15 RW-HP, its junk as far as I am concerned.

As promised, here are my results for the LT1 air-gap intake manifold.

I gained ~5 rwhp and ~12 rwtq from my last dyno without this intake manifold. This was with the cutout closed and is the only run I am comparing to my original.

359.3 -> 364.3 rwhp
352.4 -> 364.0 rwtq

for ***** and giggles I ran a couple with the cutout open, the numbers jumped to:

379.3 rwhp
370.4 rwtq

The last two dyno runs with the cutout open should not be compared to my original numbers. These were a new high for me so thats why I'm posting them.

Link to the dyno sheet:

And Video:

Good enough for me and I'm just happy that my oil leak in the back of the manifold is gone (hopefully for good).

Take this for what its worth guys.

Im sorry and this is nothing against you Blackbird your car is sick, but 5 hp is ******* depressing, and does not justify $400 IMO.
You can buy a stall for that much.

I would have liked to seen atleast 12-15 rwhp, 14-18 rwtq gained with the cutout closed.
Well, atleast Edelbrock is trying.

I agree with you on the point on price for the gains but this purchase was mainly based on getting a new manifold to replace my warped stocker. I did not want to buy a used intake manifold and risk the same issue so this was the option I went with.

As stated above, I gained 5rwhp and 12rwtq. I simply posted that the cutout was open on the next two runs to state why their was a significant jump in power. I am only comparing my previous dyno run with the cutout closed to my first dyno run today with the cutout closed.

If everyone feels bad that I spent the money to try it out then feel free to paypal me some funds....I know I am saving a lot of you guys a good chunk of money lol

Again guys, this was not a perfect test but I'm not afraid to post the results...good or bad as I said.

20rwhp from opening a cutout is nuts. What kind of exhaust are you running? Back when I had the Y pipe with the Magnaflow and a cutout I gained 5rwhp when open.

Don't remember. They never gave me a print out of my runs.
