Default LT1/SBC owners only...

If you've replaced your oil pump with a Melling since Jan 2004 or are planning on replacing it, better read this first... NOT good!

http://www.nastyz28.com/forum/showthread.php?t=65870

I've ran across several boards that are talking about this.

This has been covered here a few times already, good info.

I went with a standard volume standard pressure big block pump with the pickup welded on.

hahah "Not made for performance applications". Dumbest decision I've seen in awhile.

Thats smart Vtec, since the high pressure is what, just a spring change?

I throw a tac on my screens too.

Unfortunately for me, I just assembled my 383 with a Melling HV55 last month. I'm going to pull the pan and replace it with the better pump. It's always something, ya know

it says with solid motor mounts it cracks and breaks. If you have standard mounts you'll be alright.

I've had a suspicion that something is amiss with mine anyway. Every time I've placed an oil pump in my motors, at hot idle, they've always shown 35psi. This one shows only 20psi at 1,000 rpm. I know that's technically 'enough' since the accepted rule is 10psi for every 1,000 rpm, but it concerns me that a new motor (one month old but the 20psi was present on the end of the first day) at 180 degrees is showing such a low level. The last time I swapped in a pump was well before the Jan/2004 change in the Mellings and they all (3 in total, while searching for a fix to the infamous WOT oil pressure drop w/stock oil pan) had the minimum 35psi. I'm going to swap out the pump just to be sure.

i just put one in mine since my machine shop ordered it when they bored it....i got the stock motor mounts and am only at around 400 hp....stalled and cammed..you think i would be ok to run it since it only sees the track one a year or so..we crunk it last night for the first time and oil pressure was at 60 at idle...we just put the motor in and i really cant afford to be pulling the motor again...what do you guys think..its got me worried

The guys that seem to complain all had solid motor mounts and slicks so they must be somewhat hard core. I do wonder why they (Melling ) felt compelled to add the little piece of paper in the boxes warning about "performance use". You're probably good to go.

I've had the melling in mine for a year now with no problems. I think they put the paper in there to just cover their butts. I'm not worried.

155? Where are you seeing that notation? I'm looking at my catalog and I don't see that particular number presented.

I got a M155 also, got it at Autozone. It's the regular stock replacement for the LT1.
