Default trans removal

ok so Im trying to get this A4 out of my '93 Z and I cannot get those top bolts out, how do you guys do it, or do you guys have any tricks. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Kevin

Haha, dont worry you are not alone on that one.
It took a couple extensions and swivels to get it out, MUST have patience!

Extensions are key.

I would also recomend dropping the *** end of the trans down a bit. It will pull the top bellhousing bolts down and you can almost get your whole arm up there to do the wrenching.

Lower down the tranny cross member, have a jack and a block of wood underneath, get a LONG extension and carfully work the bolts out, make sure the flywheel bolts are out too.

you mean torque converter bolts

To get that top left bolt use shallow 9/16 thin wall swivel socket with a really long extention, make sure the rear of the trans is hanging all the way down with the cross member completely unbolted, trans cooler line's off, harness unplugged and anything thats attached to the trans.

i did mine from the top of the motor with a ratcheting wrench.

A 24" extension and a universal joint did the trick for me. I'm having a hard time getting the middle one on the drivers side though. I guess I'll go buy another universal joint and try them both.

Yea, fly to converter, not fly to crank, miss typed. Also make sure the coolant lines are un hooked, the dip stick tube is out, the harness is un hooked and the shifter cable is unhooked.

just did mine and like he said use a long extension and on the bolt that hes talking about i just used a wrench to get it out

That Drivers side bolt was a bitch..I rounded it off and had to get my round-out kit on that one. I dropped the whole K-member to make everything easier.

i just used a long pry bar to bend the floorpan up abit and the swivel socket with a 48" extension worked great! had to use some rtv to hold the bolt in the socket to put it back in though. couldn't fit my big *** hand up there!

Thats funny...thats exactly what I had to do to get it out. I dont remember it being that hard a couple of years ago, but this time it was not coperating.

Thats a great tip, I used it for a bolt that was at a weird downward angle which I couldnt get my hands down there. This was for the EGR tube on my dynatech headers.
