Default A Man after my heart

You have an outstanding ride!!
I'm in the process of installing a 96 ImpalaLT1 w/a 4L60 in a 72 El Camino. I bought the ole' Elk new and it has been a part of the family for 35 years. I'm also TIRED of screwing with a carb and figured it was time to freshen up the beast. I would like to ask some questions about the build.

Hoosier, feel free to PM or ask here. I want my next ride to be a 72 Elky, but thats a long way off.

No times yet. I hope to get to Byron in the next month to see what happens. I hoping for a 12.99, but I probably wont hook in first and the Saginaw is the weak link. If there is one thing I suck at, its predicting first time out combos.

I'm diggin the clean looks of the malibu exterior!

looks really nice.

I would think about painted the intake manifold a different color. I think silver or black with the ribs polished up would accent the rest of the black/chrome/polished look of the car.

one day I'll own an A-body like that...

Beautiful ride, and nicely done.

I could not have stated it any better. This is by far the best way to do it, and cutting corners in this area will only come back to bite you in the behind later.

If anyone has any questions, feel free to PM or email me.

I had to go Chevy Orange cause thats the color the original engine was. I think it pops with the LT1 intake.

Very nice , I am doing the same swap into my 70 Camaro , LT1/4L60E . The LS1 is a great motor but to expensive like you said . And having a extra LT1 laying around helps with the decision.

I have a few questions for if you do not mind .

What accessory bracket did you use F or B body ?.
What alternator is that it does not look stock ?.
What harness F or B body ?.
What valve covers ?, regular center bolt or LT1 specific ?.
Any more pictures would be cool.

Everything is F-Body. The alternator is a late model, I dont remember the model but its smaller than the old chevelle one and the F-body one. I had a small aluminum piece machined to bolt it on and the back of the alternator was milled about an 1/8 inch to clear the valve cover. The valve covers are stock proform center bolts universal application.

Just in case you havent thought about it and you are attempting to modify your stock harness, b-body and f-body mount the ecm in different places. I used the F-body harness because it the length and location of the main plugs went right through the firewall to the ECM mounted on the inside of the heater box under the dash. If you dont have enough room under the dash in your gen 2, the B-body harness mounts the ECM behind the drivers side headlight. The B-body wont look as clean with the harness coming off the front of the motor, but the LT1 ECM is big. I will have more pics this weekend as I hope to have it on a lift.
