Default ring and pinion interchangability?

will a 1987 monte carlo ring and pinion (im pretty sure its a 10 bolt, its stock anyway) interchange with my 1993 z28 ring and pinion witch is obviously a 10 bolt? a buddy of mine has 4.11 gears in his and we are talking about trading since i have 3.23s and he wants better milage, but i dont know if they are interchangable. i havent got to look under his car so i dont know if it is a 10 bolt for sure but im pretty sure it is, its got a 350 anyways if that means anything. i thought 4.11 were ford gears i didnt know chevy made them, but he might mean 4.10s. im thinkin the 10 bolts are identical from those years right?

depends on wat carrier it is. there r 2 different carriers for the 7.5 rear end. carrier 2 came out will cars with 3.23 and higher which is 26 spline axles. carrier 3 came out with 3.23 or lower which have 28 spline axles. ur car has carrier 3. u need to find out wat gear his car came out with factory if its was a 3.23 it will work. but if it came out with 3.08 or 2.73 it want work the ring gear will be a different thickness i done the samething i had to learn the hard way

No, 4.11 is a Ford gear sizing. And as TravisMcGill2000 said, a 2-series carrier will not fit a 3-series rear end, and visa versa.

GM uses 4:10. Some Astros had them, I assume in the AWD models.
