Default Any advice for LT1 coolant flush?

Other than don't get even a drop on the Opti, any dos and don'ts? My friend's a self taught mechanic, and while this sounds bad, he really knows his stuff. When he flushed his 94 Vette, it blew out his water pump. I actually plan on taking mine in and having it done, so if anything goes wrong, I have someone else to point the finger at.

There is a block drain plug on the drivers side, and the knock sensor acts as the passenger side.

dont panic when tempture goes to 260, it'll jump around untill all the air is removed. i usally flush mine at work using the flush mechine, but you can drain and fill too. both ways work.

Well, like I said, I plan to let a place do it, so if anything's pooched after, I'm not the one to blame But they'll have a flush machine, which since you've used one... If my TStat is stuck closed, does that matter? I don't want to replace it before the flush, since my coolant in my radiator is nasty, and I don't want to risk that screwing up my pump any. I don't KNOW if my TStat is stuck closed or not, it may be stuck open since it's always ran so cool. I put it off today because I don't know what to do :\ Replace the stat and hope it doesn't open by the time I get there (Just 3 blocks away), or let them flush it anyways. I asked and they wouldn't replace it, since it's a Valvoline Instant Oil Change and not a shop-shop.

I used a " Back Flush " kit made by Prestone - its like $4 at your local No-zone.. as well as some Prestone flush.. It worked great- i got all kinds of nasty stuff out of my coolant system & never have had a problem since.
Be sure you get all the air out when your done- and like LT1 said- it will bounce around a little.. Just be sure you follow ALL the directions to a T. It is hard as hell to get all that foamy cleaner stuff out but man it really works great. You then flush it out w/ water for like 20 mins..- took like 2 hours but i was VERY happy with the results..

if the place wont do the T-stat, then replace it your self and take it to them, because the flush machine runs while the engines hot, and the t-stat will open and circulate threw the flush machine untill all the coolant has been exchanged.

honestly its really simple to do, I wouldnt pay a place to do it, because if they do mess it up they wont tell you and then might try to shift the blame, usually to you racing.

Anyways, there are two bleed screws on my car, I dont know about yours, but I screwed them so they spray away from the opti's general direction, and its just pretty simple, prestone makes a pretty good kit

I know how to flush a car, I'm not worried about all that. I just wanted a professional machine to do it. I can borrow my friends burp funnel if I need to.

ah I see, yea a professional machine will do a pretty good job, just a side note, after I flushed my system I noticed that my coolant level sensor broke, so be prepared to replace that just in case

Where's that one located? I already replaced the coolant temp sensor, not that I think it was bad. I need to replace the gauge one, since my gauge only works when it wants.

The coolant level sensor is in the Radiator on the pass side tank, then there is the coolant temp sensor on the waterpump and the coolant temp switch in the block between cyl's #1 & #3...
