Default WTF!! I passed the Sniffer!!!

A friend of mine works for a local inspection shop. They got the latest sniffer a few days ago, so I was at his shop today checkin it out. I saw that thing reject 00 and up vechicles. I decided to check how bad mine was considering I have nothing smog legal on the car, and sure enough...no luck. I had a spare bottle of "Guaranteed to Pass" in the car, for my Ford Ranger, but I poured it into the Camaro, and thirty minutes later I pass...Crazy, considering I have no smog pump, cats, 383, and a XFI 468 cam. That stuff really works...don't know how, but I'm Texas state legal.

How did it test without the "fix in a bottle"?
Something people forget is a lot of what we do to get more power to the ground is about efficiency and that efficiency we strive for can have a positive impact on emmisions PPM tests, volume may go up but they don't measure that.

I hope they let me get away with my LS2 Conversion if I do get tested, that Engine from the Factory has no EGR on it..

Do you honestly think a cam with 19 degrees of overlap (242/248 in a 113lsa) can pass the sniffer with no cats?

That's awesome, I didn't know there were emission exempt states. We might of cheated the system. The first test was @ cold idle. The second was with race fuel, and revved the crap out of the car right before the test. I don't know, maybe a faulty sniffer, who knows, but honestly I did pass it.

That's funny... the newer Engines will beat up on the older ones, you think that they wouldn't allow that, but then again they don't expect the average person to drop and wire a new Engine in..

I read him.. he said it was legal to put in a newer Engine in an older model car. I said that's funny cause the newer Engines are more powerful. But then again the average person isn't goin to have the knowledge to drop a newer LS1 into an older car..

well the reasons are obvious.... emissions are not getting easier.... they get harder... so a newer motor is obviously going to get better emissions than the older motor in the car... and of course... its obvious why older motors are a no no

sucks you cant put an engine from a smog excempt car into a newer one.

also, with CA swaps are hard to deal with. anytime you want to change your engine, it HAS to be newer AND instected by a ref and/or a stroked out STOCK engine. like the block from my car or any LT1.

Technically, from what I heard, is it's illegal to do an engine swap. You have to rebuild your own motor. Reason being, is to keep numbers matching. Otherwise you could just coincidentally be running the motor from a car that had been stolen! If the motor is totally broken, cracked block, then I think a swap has to be done by a certified shop.

In reality? If that really is the case, I really don't think it's ever enforced lol

EDIT: heh silly grammatical typos.
