A Swap from a 2V (gt) to a 4V (Cobra engine) is very simple: Drop it in, extend a few wires to reach the sensors(due to the heads bieng so big), and get a tune. Full bolt on 96-98 or 99/01 Cobras can run low 12s @ 110-114.
If the guy has the car set up right, you will have a hard time beating him with a stock geared, CAI lt1.

What year is his car any way?

I can attest to the 99-01 Cobra 4V's being nasty with full bolt-ons. Back in 2001 or 02 I was at the track with my full bolt-on LT1 6spd WS6 car running a string of 12.60's at 109 mph (no cutout or PCM tune), but every other imaginable bolt-on. I had a guy come up to me and ask if I wanted to run his buddies 99 Cobra and I said sure (I knew there was something up if a N/A Cobra wants to run a LT1 that is running mid 12's). So, I proceeded to the staging lanes and we both did a nice burnout on slicks. Light goes, he gets me on the tree with my nose at his rear tire (my car was lowered about 3", so I was struggling to get much better than a 1.85 on a slick (which sucks )). We proceed to start rowing through the gears and by the top of second I had come from a foot or two off his bumper to my nose now pulling to the back crease in his door. We bang third gear and the nose of the WS6 creeps up to the front of his door about the mirror. When we hit 4th the WS6 just does not have enough to reel him in for win. I can honestly say that even though I got beat by a fender it was probably the most fun I have ever had racing the Blue Oval Camp ! After that race we ran 2 or 3 more times and the results were almost identical, me falling to the back of his car on the start and clawing my way back to his front fender. Later that night he and his buddies came over to where all my friends were hanging out and complimented me on the nastiest running bolt-on LT1 he has ever raced. I reciprocated with complimenting him on how absolutely fast his 99 Cobra was for a pure bolt-on with slicks car. He ran a string of 12.55's to 12.65's @ 108.5 to 109.5 and I ran a string of 12.61's to 12.67's @ 108.5 to 109 mph all night long. He did say that he had the update from Ford on the PCM with longtubes and 4:30 gears on top of whatever bolt-ons you can do to a Cobra at the time 2001/02. That is one of my favorite stories with my car and I think it applies to your situation. So, make sure you come prepared if it's a 99 to 01 4V cobra because they definitely can be made to run ( I was a believer after that night).

Enjoy your race and keep it safe at the track
