In my circle (I'm in the pro audio field) there's always somebody who has to be the ******* and I usually volunteer for the position. People HATE me but I'm always right, I am the boss and I always get the job done.

Having said this, 96capricemgr is usually correct with his words and advice posted here. Look past his brash ways. Maybe he could use a course in communications but he knows his way around an LT1.

I ONLY use German Castrol 0-30 weight in all my cars. It's commonly available at Auto Zone. If you wander into an Auto Zone in the NYC area and the shelf for it is empty, I was just there and cleared them out. I try to keep 30-40 quarts on hand in my shop. Anything else, including all other grades of Castrol might be good to fry fish or fries in.

The research has been done. Don't bother, just get the GC and be set knowing you've bought the best oil on the market. Make sure it says "Made In Germany" right on the bottle.

I never said any oil was bad, worst I said was M1 5w-30 was at least at one point a mediocre choice.
Amsoil I said holds it's viscosity well till it gets old that is in no way a negative comment just a comment on reality, Amsoil is one of the oils that genuinely can go MUCH longer than most people use it. The 25,000 mile thing they recommend I feel is irresponsible because few people actually meet the recommended conditions, but under proper conditions it can last that long.

Here is the problem you are an ignorant, foolish kid incapable of intelligently processing information which is what the modern "education system" strives to turn out these days. If you were capable of processing information you would not have read what I wrote as a slam to Amsoil.

It all comes down to the old saying "give a man a fish and feed him for a day, TEACH a man to fish and feed him for life", how that applies here is people always want the quick answer when they would be MUCH better served asking WHY. As in WHY is one oil better than another. That can be answered by testing used oil, one oil is better because it allows less wear and lasts long.
People these days seem to think a marketing department with a big budget means best but what I ask of an oil is not to see it's name every time I turn on the TV or open a magazine, I ask it to protect my engine from wear so that is my measure of good.

Should also note that what racers use does not mean best on the street a few HP gained but traded for a little extra wear is worthwhile when a motor will be refreshed seasonally, on a street car that would be foolish though.

Paul GC here in US is getting harder to find. A lot of AZs have GC on sellthrough for some odd reason. Although someone found some fresh M07 GC, it's widely available in CANADA. I do however own 45 quarts Love to buy it when it's on sale Castrol Syntec these days has gotten better. On part if not better than M1 oils. I'd have no fear running another castrol syntec weight in my car.

I have yet to see one quart of german castrol on a shelf in florida and I'm not going to waste a day hunting for oil so I'm running M1 0w40, I'll probably go back to the 5w40 now that I'm seeing it back on the shelfs at walmart. And JFYI oil filters are as important as the oil if not more important, so make sure you are using one of the better filters out there.

Well you'll only find it at Autozone. If you want I can give you the SKU and your store can see if they have any in stock or any that could be brought in from other "sister" stores.

Yes filters are just as important. AC DELCO ultraguard Gold, Purolator PureOne, Wix ???

I understand the research regarding the content of used oil, but this debate seems to be almost a preference on what brand you want. I've heard good stuff on the GC, as well as Mobil 1 and Castrol. And reading this post I take it with a grain of salt as I'd like to see a LONG term comparison of oils in our engine, say 75K miles on an engine that ONLY used Mobil one. And then another engine for the same amount of miles that ONLY used GC, that would be a little more fuel for the fire IMHO. Personally Im getting ready to put GC 0-30 in mine, but I just don't see the point in these kind of debates.

^^ That's not going to really prove anything. No two engines will ever wear the same. Similiar yes, identical No.

^^^^ Yes i know that is true as well... but to me that would be more of an experiment. But I still believe it pretty much boils down whatever you prefer. Just my .02.
