Default suspension and rearend or AI head/cam

hey guys what is a better route for me to go. I have some money laying around and i was looking at eather doing a 9in rear with some suspension work or doing the Ai head and cam setup on my 94 m6 the motor only has 60xxx on it so its still a pretty fresh motor. From reading abotu Ai, looks like their setup is good for an easy 400whp if not more ;-)

thanks

Well ask yourself this, if you get the heads/cam and then break the rear can you afford to fix it? If yes, then go ahead and do that, otherwise get the rear first if you can't have it breaking. With the m6 if you want to plant that 400whp to the pavement in any kind of aggressive fashion you'll need the rear soon enough anyway.

I have always been one for strengthening known problem areas before adding power and breaking more stuff. Are you more concerned with HP numbers or ET times? A good hooking car with suspension can take you pretty far with less HP. If you go the HP route, how do you plan on hooking the power up to the track?

I would probably do the H/C first the stock rear will last as long as you are not launching at 3000+rpm with DRs. The problem with doing the rear first is if you go the 12bolt or 9" rout depending on the gears you use you will actually be slower then you were with the 10bolt with your current set-up do to the added rotating and physical mass. suspension components are always good though they can save your rear end to. So i would do H/C the suspension then rear end.

i put my 9" and stuff in first because i know that if i built my motor and snapped the rearend i wouldn't be able to drive it at all. plus my 10 bolt was pretty much shot and needed new gears and a diff.

i put my h/c on before i built the rear and it never made it to the track. 200 miles later and split the posi open and the rear would lock up constantly. as long as you can afford a new rear i would ship my heads out and have a 9 waiting for the heads to come back. I would have dropped the 9 in before the h/c if i were to do it again.
