Default car over heating!!! input needed

Hey guys i just picked up my car on Sunday from MD it is running very strong... Or i thought so last night cause it was cool outside. I went to drive it today and it went to 250 and started flowing out the overflow res. I can;t figure out what is the problem the bango bolt in the back of the head is good the water pump is new and i bleed all the air out of the block and everything.... It stays normal temp until i hit traffic or hott heat and slow driving..??? Do yall think it could possibly be the radiator? both bottom and top hoses are hott. And by the way the thermo is also a 180 and is new! hope i can figure this thing out i am dying to drive the car!

Make sure the fans a coming on, possible sensor issue, maybe a relay...fuse? Check the radiator cap...you may have an issue there. you may have more air in it. But to me it sounds like the fans are not working properly. If you cruise around the temp is ok, but in traffic it heats up...check the fans.

I think the thermo isn't opening. replace it and see if it solves the problem. Also you will know if the radiator is the problem if fluid doesnt drain from it properly (because of a clog)

If you have recently changed the radiator hoses make sure they are routed right. Also make sure the steam line from the back of the engine is routed right. I have seen those reversed and cause some havoc.

First i'd try flushing the radiator and going through routine checkups. Also it wouldnt hurt to buy a 160 and ditch the 180, there only like 15 bucks. When i drained my radiator it only drained about a quart lol. Stick a hose with a nozzle into the res. while the radiator plug is out and shoot it in there and also stick it in where the radiator cap gos and blow it out also. Also try putting some water wetter in the radiator also. Just getting a new thermo and flushing the **** out of the radiator helped my temps out a tone. Crusing on the highway in 90 degree weather my car read 180 and now it reads just over 160.

I'm with FAD2BLK93, if the car is ok under normal driving and only overheats when stopped or slow moving (no air circulating) then its the fans not doing their job.

Take off your radiator cap while the car is running ( i dont know if this is a good idea but i didnt have any problems...my dad was a mechanic for 20 years and told me) and check and see if the coolant is circulating in the radiator. If its not then the radiator is clogged. If im wrong correct me lol.

Just make sure it hasn't gotten too warm when you do this! If the system has already pressurized, you'll burn yourself!
