The Best V8 Stories One Small Block at Time
I'm not really sure what you mean by "better" spark, since what you're using are still stock GM coil packs. If by "better," you're referring to the multiple fire capability, then something to keep in mind is that by ditching the stock optical wheel and replacing it with a 36-1 trigger wheel, you've essentially watered down your ignition resolution to 10X less than what it was before. When you replace a system that can pinpoint crank position to the degree with one that's just "accurate," multiple spark fire then becomes a needed crutch in high rpm situations.
I applaud your spirit of ingenuity, but better than Delteq? Doubtful.
By the way, I'm glad to see somebody was paying attention:
Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking your setup at all. Crank-trigger ignitions are usually pretty failsafe. I just feel that the "better than Delteq" statement was a little unfair.
FYI: I originally intended to try mounting the bracket to the firewall, but I ran into clearance problems. The underside of the cowl actually slants downward as it runs toward the firewall, so the coils were going to have to sit wayyyy low in order to be all the way up against it. The problem was that the coils are tall enough that if they were all the way flush up against the firewall, they were low enough to not fit between it and the rear china wall on the intake. So I had no choice but to mount them further forward and "up and over" the intake china wall.
How's that idler pulley holding up for ya? Did you ever put it into service?
This is the exact setup i want. do you have a link, directions, and/or specs on that setup ?

For my engine rebuild, I decided to upgrade to the MSD Pro-Billet with the billet Delteq replacement cap, sealed up tight as a drum:

You can also make it "rotorless:"

The billet Delteq replacement cap can be found here:

If you decided to go with a set of one of the aftermarket coils (MSD, Accel), all you need from Delteq is the "bare bones" kit and a GM ignition module P/N#1162: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/CADIL...spagenameZWD1V
...plus your spark plug wires of choice.

I have not put the pulley on the car, but it still shine like a ****
I knew you would show a pic of the billet Delteq cover, I finally installed my billet Delteq cover on my Dyna-Tech opti just like yours
Did you do the GEN III rotorless upgrade. I just had mine done about 6 months ago.Oops, just noticed you have the MSD pro billet opti
Next Level,
Sound of fury gave you a good start, but alot of my setup is custom built to look and function within the parameters of my car. You can certainly replicate my setup, but you will need to have some basic fab skills for a few of the items. If you want a complete breakdown of everything I have done on the DELTEQ/MSD, etc. Do a search under my username and look for a couple different post I made on the DELTEQ setup. I have an extensive write-up in one of the posts. There are alot of guys that do some very trick stuff on LT1's if you search out things on LS1tech.
