Default Hard to start when warm

I have a 94z LT1 w/ a 383 stroker kit. The car starts fine when it's cool, but if I get it up to temperature, shut it off and try to start it again it turns over very hard. It almost acts like an older car when the timing is too high. My guess is either the opti or the starter. Any ideas. Thanks.

my car does the same thing and yet to find out why. 97 WS6. if its 20 degrees out it will start right up. but if it is hot out or i turned the car off and let it set for 20 mins it cranks and cranks and cranks and finally starts. also i think that has something to do with the reason i get about 8mpg about 12 on the highway.

Sounds like maybe your o2 sensors.

Sounds like bad battery cables cause when they are warm the cables create more resistance or a loose connection. Thats where I would start.

Mine does the exact opposite. When it's warm, it starts easily. When it's cold, it's a bitch to start.

by "turns over very hard" i take it you mean it cranks slowly? or do you mean it cranks a lot off times before it starts? mine used to crank fast when it was cold and slow when it was hot. i have since replaced the starter but have only ran it once for about 5 minutes so i cant give you feedback on whether it helped the warm starts or not

and definitly not 02 sensors. they only effect anything when the motor is in closed loop mode, which isnt when you are trying to start the motor.

Check fuel pressure, fuel pump, fuel pump relay if it's not ignition related.

Sorry but you are wrong. A bad o2 sensor can most certainly effect warm start. When you start warm you are in closed loop basically immediately, and if it was running very rich/lean before you shut it off that can affect startup. They would not affect cold start. Plus the person I responded to said he was getting really bad gas mileage, which is one of the symptoms of bad o2 sensors.

It could be a heat soak issue though (like with the icm).

Not sure on the answer but put another one up for the problem. I can bump my key for like 2-3 minutes sometimes like the batteries dead but then all the sudden it will start up like a champ. Only thing i can say is that its only since started when i put a cut out on.........not sure if its coincidental or that it may have thrown O2 sensors...and its only when warm. New opti...new battery....and cars only got 50k mi so its gotta be somethin real stupid....

Any update on this? Same thing started for me yesterday, gonna check the ICM/coil since I get noise through my speakers like the old "condensor noise" from days long ago.

First Just Unplug The Connecters And See If There Is Any Burn Marks But They Will Not Always Looked Burnt, My First Time It Was Clean But Was Still Bad Hope This Helps Hey KAOZ Thats What I Though At First My Battery Was Dead Deff. This has nothing to do with o2 sensors, when its real cold it starts right up and when its hot it turns over and over and over, and gets bad gas milage...

GUARANTEE you its the tempature sender on the water pump. That sensor goes to the computer not the guage and when its bad it automatically defaults a -20 to -30 below causing it to run extremely rich hurting your milage, and when its hot its drowning itself with fuel not being able to start.

the other tempature sender on the side of the head is the one that runs your guage.

hope this helps you guys out.

Thank you thank you thank you! Couldn't figure this out to save my life!

I replaced this temperature sensor (just got a replacement acdelco one off Amazon) and now it starts perfectly every time. Still waiting to see what my new and improved fuel economy is like!

Thanks so much!
