im on a budget right now so spending 200 dollars on a shifter isnt an option at this time. i ordered a shifter arm from ebay for 25 bucks. i am very impressed with it, and will most likely just keep this and not do the shifter base unless i find one cheap. feels like the pro 5.0 in my 95 gt now.

I had the Pro5.0 in my 1997 30th SS and I now currently have the B&M Ripper in my 1995 Formula. I can't stress enough, to stay away from the Pro5.0. It shifted sloppy. You could still misshift, very easily. The B&M operates like a dream.

The standard by which all other shifters a measured. The original and still the best. Everything else is just a cheap copy.
At $100 on ebay, mine even came with a chrome rod and the classic white ball too!
Firm, mechanical, and notchy - I LOVE it! I never miss a shift now.

The Pro 5.0 is by far a better shifter. It is noisier and more notchy than the Ripper but I can't hear my shifter over my car and as for it being notchy, I love it. Feels like a race car, not a soft luxury car. I have yet to miss shift with the Pro 5.0, it has to be damn near impossible. With the Pro 5.0 you can swap out the shifter like to Lou's short stick, cut around an inch off and there you have the perfect shifter. But with the Ripper you are stuck with the long *** shifter that comes with it...

That's what the box said on mine too - and I have a 96 too - it fits / works perfect - no mods whatsoever.
Just say HURST!

I've driven cars with the following:
B&M Ripper (owned) -- precise, longer throws than others, centering springs weren't too strong
Hurst -- Long throws for an aftermarket shifter, nice and smooth though.
Pro 5.0 -- short throws, VERY short throws with a short stick, notchy, VERY precise
Factory Hurst Shifter (owned) -- Precise but notchy, relative short throws
My favorite is a Factory Hurst with a Short Stick (I have a UMI, others are out there). I kept this in lieu of a B&M Ripper. VERY short throws, VERY solid and precise, and you can get this setup for around $100 total if you shop around. $125 worst case as the short stick goes for $25 and you can find the shifter itself for $75-100.
