I don't know about the year-one CF driveshaft posted, but the ACPT one like I have on my T/A are rated really high. Look at this from one of our sponsors:

And whoever was talking something about 2000+ LS1's. They for the most part ALL have aluminum driveshuafts. Unless you had an A4 2.73 car, OR had a car with H rated tires. My buddies 99' M6 had H rated tires stock and had a steel driveshaft with a speed limiter around 105mph I want to say.

Peace,
Craig.

That was me.. I got it confused with something else that is 2000 up. The 2.73 thing is true, a told a friend of mine with a LS1 that has 2.73's in it to get an Aluminum DS, it will help..

I love the "Alu is stronger than CF" debate. Just aint da troof boss. CF is stronger than Alu any day of the week. It's not indestructible, but there's a reason why many companies, for many different products, switch from Alu to CF in their high end apps. Good point is CF masts on sail boats.

The dealer put the 3rd gen 1LE aluminum shaft in mine under warranty in 1997 after I complained about vibes. There was a bulletin at the time.

Not sure how it compares to the LS1 though.

There was a TSB on the driveshaft several years ago that went from 93-97...that said when a customer came in and complained about a vibration they were to replace it with aluminum under warranty. Then in 98 GM started using both the steel and aluminum in performance applications...this TSB is no longer active.
BTW 1BAD95z what part of wash are you in. send me a PM I am interested in NW F-body.

...though I know a manual car will be more harsh on them, or any driveshaft for that matter. And I've seen a stroker at the track break one of these at the line.
But none the less they are made for drag racing too.

Peace,
Craig.

I've had an LS1 driveshaft in my car since I bought it last August and I haven't had one problem with it, And I drive my car like I stole it. It came out of a wrecked 1998 Trans Am (I Pulled It Out) and I saw someone wrote that they came in all 98+ Z28's and TA's except for those with 2.73 gears...I agree.) my brother and a buddy of mine have 98 TA's with 2.73's and theirs are both steel as well. The car I got this one out of was an Automatic with 3.23 gears.... just wanted to add my 2 cents hopefully I helped someone. My oppinion Grab one they do add a few ponies, and drives a little smoother.

BTW Lonnie above has that shaft I got from the dealer in 98 He got it in 99
Ellis,
That shaft lived a long torturous life behind my blown 383. It lasted through 2 broken torque arms, 1 exploded rear end & even twisted output splines on the m6.

I will say the early 1LE shaft is stronger than the LS1 style.

Since my Camaro now has a new one, it is going in my '91 Formula the next time I'm under it. The sick 305 needs every hp it can get.

I think if you brought it to a Machine Shop you could get it balanced.

someone mentioned earlier that they were packed with cardboard but didn't know why... well, I could be wrong but, its for strength. Sometime when your bored, take a hollow straw and try to twist it... Then fill it with dirt or sand, or cardboard (if you can somehow cram it into a straw) and you will find its much more rigid... I'm no driveshaft engineer here but, was just thinking about it.

The cardboard is supposedly to eliminate resonance. Some shafts tend to emit a ringing sound at low rpm with the converter locked or with a manual. The cardboard is supposed to eliminate this.

I definitely know the earlier 1LE shaft does transmit more sound to the car interior.
