Default Lt-4 knock module

The Lt-4 knock module I was wondering what exactly it does and if its worth getting one and how do you know when its time to get one in your car. Like what modifcations would benefit from havine one installed.

best bang for the buck. it is great if you have headers or rollers rockers. it will keep from retarding your timing

I never noticed a difference when i put mine in. i guess i never get any false knocks but I never got any before either. safe bet if you are upgrading your valvetrain though.

The knock modules are located in the PCM. There is a little trap door that unbolts and then the KM will pop out. The LT4 KM is actually just tuned a little differently, to allow noises of slightly different frequencies (ie roller rockers). It's relatively inexpensive and CAN help but not necessarily. Custom tuning can actually do similar things. I disabled my knock sensor a while back, which is the best solution .

There have been cases where people have posted that their LT1 KM worked better than the LT4 KM. Sure cant explain that.

I agree that totally disabling the KM jus' aint smart. That can get very expensive.

I guess I should have added that it's the best solution for a heads/cam car with true duals and a driver that knows his car (tuning, listening for knock, etc). I definitely shouldn't have recommended that to people just inquiring about the LT4 KM. My bad. To answer the question about how you know if you have an LT4 KM or not, you'd have to pull the KM out and check serial #'s. The LT4 KM is identical (eye ball wise) to the stock one.

I hooked up a switch, so that when I am at the track running at cooler temps on good fuel, I can disable the knock sensor with a flip of the switch.
