when was the last time your heads were decked? i just blew a felpro 1074 a couple weeks ago with ARP bolts, switched to ARP studs and changed to Mr Gasket 5716s, which are what i ran a couple years ago spraying 200hp and never had a problem. only made 3 passes last weekend and blew the 5716 in 2 places. turns out my driver's head had warped some (its been 2 years and several combos since i had it decked). took .015" of cutting to get it back flat. i went back to the 1074s again now. ill be back out this weekend to see how it goes

THE heads are new from gtp. they are stage 2. Myabe my block is not so flat any more. i am going to buy fel pro again and stud the heads. I think it is just an issue of the aluminum bolts stretching. thanks for your help.

update- installed new felpro gaskets again but this time i used apr studs. everything seemed fine for the first mile or so but then the car started over heating and smoking bad agian. Now with the car off and i try to fill the radiator coolant poors right out of the driver side header?????? So now im thinking maybe it was not a gasket at all . it has to be either a cracked head or cracked sleve. Has any one here ever had or heard of problems with GTP STAGE 2 HEADS. Any ways im not tearing her down again for a week or to. i just need a rest. i have torn this thing down 3 times now this month. And i think this hole time it has been thoes heads. Any ideas guys.

The fel-pro 1074's are a verry good gasket, im running 18 pnds boost for over a year now and no problems, you must be having a tuning issue or a warped head or block

i have heard that before. a buddy of mine had that problem when he first put his heads with extensive porting on his car and it turned out the heads were ported to much and one part of it was ported completely through to a coolant channel. i doubt that is the case with yours but i would definately say to check your heads for cracks and possible a hole where it was ported through on accident and redone.

Now who would that be? Sounds liek you have a exhaust port leaking. Pull the header off and start filling the radiator back up and see if it's leaking. I had a pin hole that you really couldn't see but that thing would **** like crazy. Get the heads pressure tested and they can tell exactly where it's leaking. Best thing is to send them back to GTP and let them fix it.

If the shop isn't near you then you can take them to a machine shop and have them pressure tested (make sure to have it done hot - while they should still leak if they are cracked and it is cold, sometimes it is much more noticeable if they are hot).

If there was a tremendous amount of coolant it almost has to be a cracked head, but if it isn't too much then it could possibly be a headbolt with not enough sealant on it (which contributed to the gasket going out, which let fluid in the chamber).

The felpro's have been known to have issues at higher boost (15+lbs) for some people - if you are planning something that radical then I would suggest the cometic headgaskets - they make some of the mls ones for LT1's also - you specify the thickness. The cost about twice as much but you will not have problems if you have a straight block/head and adequate clamping force.

I have been so frustrated over my car i decided to take a few weeks of from working on it. Untill 2 days ago when I was helping my Friend intall his 12 bolt. Well we go out for the test drive and shure enough a mustange comes up and rides his *** and then passes us. Well this got me going again. So last night i started tearing her down. What i have found so far is about 1 inch of gooie white stuff on top of the valve cover. If it dont rain i should be able to get the head off today. When it is off i am going to check for cracks. If i find any i am going to call LS1 SPEED AND LET THEM DEAL WITH GTP. I PAYED $2500 FOR THESE HEADS. THIS IS NOT EXCEPTABLE!!!!!!!

ok well i got it all torn down. what i found was a hole in the exhaust port of number 1. I can touch it with my fingure and it feels very flimsy. If i wanted i could push my fingure right through it. I just emailed ls1 speed to see what can be done. This sucks i have wasted so much time and money on this now.
