Default gears and rear

When putting 3.73's into an auto LT1 do you need to change the carrier? Or will the stock one work?

Thanks

If the original gears were 2.73 then no it will not, if they were 3.xx then yes.

you can get 3.73's for a 2 series carrier though. I have heard they are better, I have heard they are worse.

Just make sure that whoever you order the gears from, knows that you have a 2 series carrier.

i will recommend changing the carrier.there is a good reason gm changed carriers.its not cause they wanted them to be weaker.

Im looking into getting either Richmond or Motive gears. So I'll check and see if they do them for a 2 series carrier. Thanks guys for the quick responses!

Yes. There are are 3 ways to skin this cat:
1) Change out the differential (yucchhh)
2) Put a 3 series gear with a spacer (bad idea, weaker and difficult to dial in)
3) Get a gear designed for a 2 series carrier, also called a thick gear (best idea)
#3 is what you have selected, and that is what I have run for the last 7 years with absolutely no issues.
My only caution is: You will enjoy the heck out of it, watch out for the police.

I'm sure I will these stockers are killing me. I'm getting tired of running low 15's at this altitude.

Oh hell I've had my share of tickets...I just want a 1/4 mile car that will kick my brothers lightning's ***...His best is like a 13.8 @4600' alt.

My car turned a 15.4 at 5200' with nothing done to it but a hyper tech...Does that sound about right?

i ran a 2 series carrier 3.73 gear for 2 years on a auto then converted the car to 6 speed, and then went to the track

6 speed and rear ends dont get along even still my gears were fine but it got the spider gears in the diff

youll be just fine on a 2 series 3.73 gear

I ran 4.10's in the series 2 for about seven years held in their like a champ until the sixyty foot hit a 1.483. ouch!

I never had a problem and the gear noise wasn't bad.

Turned out the spiders were the weak spot.
